I am writing to tell you about a new website which
may be of interest to you and members of The Original Writers'
Group.
The purpose of the site is to allow writers of all standards the
opportunity to publish their work on the web, and for readers to be able to
download it in either text or audio format, depending on which option the author
wants to offer.
Readers will be able to comment on the books
they've read, directly to the author, and will also be able to 'score'
them for the benefit of other visitors. Such feedback may
encourage some authors to make amendments to their manuscripts, if they so
wish, which they will be able to do online through password protected access.
Site statistics will also be available, so that they can see how many people
have clicked on their synopsis, first chapter, full text etc, giving them
valuable information about whether or not readers are being drawn into reading
the full text or, if not, at which point they move on.
Authors will always own and control their own
work and will be able to remove it altogether if they so wish. They will also be
able to decide whether they want to make the full text available for free, or
whether they want to make a small charge.
The new site is currently under construction and
will be ready within the next few weeks, but before launching it to the public
at large we want to test it thoroughly with the help of existing writers.
We are now actively looking to recruit 100 writers, of all
standards, who would like to have their work uploaded onto the site,
whether it be a full length novel or just a short story. In return for their
help we will of course waive the normal registration charge of £17
but, more importantly, those works will be the only ones which will appear
on the site at the time of its full launch later this year. We expect to
generate a lot of interest in the launch and have already had some very
encouraging comments and support from well-known names in the publishing
business.
As you would expect, we are writing to a number of
Writers' Circles and Groups, but we must limit the test to 100 works only. We
will, therefore, have to operate a 'first come, first served'
policy.
If you think that some of your members
might be interested in this opportunity, please let me know as quickly as
possible so that I can tell you more about our plans.
I look forward to hearing from you.
