I was at the montreal concert last night and it was great but one thing caught my eye at the meet and greet
M. Downes, Palmer And Wetton were great. I cant say the same for M. Howe......
he was acting like he really didnt want to be there...a lady asked him for a picture, he said yes but when she approched him for the picture and she wanted to put her arm on his shoulder he back of like she had aids or something...the lady was really stunned by is move
they still took the picture but the move he maid showed a real lack of professionalism...i mean if you dont want to interact with fans dont pretend to be interested in a meet and greet only for the money and just dont do it. i dont know if he stayed 2 minutes at the meet and greet and that couting the time he took from the stage and back.....
that scene really tarnished the image i had of M. Howe.....

Maybe he or she had a cold. If I see someone blow their nose just before a hand shake, I also will decline.

I don't know about that. From what I understand, Steve is particularly reluctant to meet anyone. It's how he's always been, and I doubt that he will ever be any different.

I saw a Steve Howe solo tour at the Agora Theater in Cleveland,Ohio back in 1995 I believe. He came out to back of venue for a meet & greet/signing with no passes or V.I.P. tickets needed. He seemed pretty nice although after signing I tried to shake his hand and he said something like No offense I do not do hand shakes.Wonder if it is a germ thing or a injury issue that could be caused that is the reason.Just saw him at Rock Hall interview.People were taking pictures with no flashes and he prefaced a question asked by Rock Hall moderator  by saying "Isn't there a sign outside that says no pictures" .Kinda off the wall, but can not deny his talent. :)

I'm not sure why anyone would be critical of Mr. Howe's behavior at all; it's a "meet and greet" not a "meet and be pawed by the casual / fanatical fan". I have met Steve on four separate occasions and he was always a gentleman each time. Considering the fact his hands are the crux of his livelihood it's no surprise he doesn't shake with them. All it would take is one overzealous "fan" and his guitar playing days would be over. Maybe if that chick had asked for a big, sloppy kiss she would have fared better... Then again, that may have not been enough for her either.

I went to a Jon Anderson show in march. He explained steve doesn't shake because back in the 80s some guy grabbed his hand in an awkward way and broke one of his fingers.

It is a shame, we are only human and tend to worship people or geniuses, if you like, If you go back in history it has always happened in all ages. We tend to believe they are more than human, but it is divine to forget bad moments; nothing personal you see, these guys have sacrificed their lives in pro of music...They are the Bach's of 21st century,

We should not be reading these, but !Le´s hear for Steve....!!!

Take care, GBY

Howdy all,

This is taken directly from the ASIA VIP Experience message I just received:

"The band members don't mind a "fist tap," but please refrain from handshakes - this is due to restrictions in our insurance policy regarding their hands."

Peace,

Jeff

Wasn't he always the more quiet one?  I think Mr. Howe might be a bit too reserved/quiet for loud unexpected demonstrations/attacks of love from unknown people.  To me being unprofessional means not being on schedule for shows and other appearances, not showing, being rude, drunk/stone, etc, not being shy/quiet.

Yep.  Steve is...well, Steve.  He certainly isn't about to change at this point in his career.  Every so often he comes out of his shell, but he's never going to really seem outgoing, IMHO.  The impression I get is that he is also very protective of his hands and fingers (as is to be expected).

He was very friendly at the meet n' greet in Red Bank, NJ. Soundcheck was pretty awesome, too.

Sorry for her. I attended two M&Gs this tour and found all of them to be gracious and accommodating.
Maybe the broad had toilet breath.

Last night I was at the Arcada Theatre meet and greet and have the following to submit for your consideration: When I first arrived at the venue I was reminded that all four members of the band may not participate in the meet & greet part of the show -- possibly Steve Howe. I had some pretty choice words when I heard this for the other fans that purchased VIP meet and greet show packages. Carl Palmer was the first to come down for the meet and greet, followed by John Wetton, then Geoff Downes. To my delight and surprise Steve Howe made his way to the meet & greet group. Steve was noticeably taken back with the situation (we were told by Josh (TINMAN Coordinator) that we were the largest M&G group so far for the tour). IMO It was quite obvious to all that Steve was very uncomfortable with the situation despite numerous attempts by fans to complement him le Steve signed merchandise autographs and engaged in very limited conversation. Later Steve posed for pictures and seemed to loosen up a little. I happened to be one of six lucky people that purchased Gold VIP packages and had the opportunity to sit literally on stage behind Steve. After sensing Steve's lack of comfort during the the M&G session I knew the fact that a small group of us setting on stage behind him was going to throw Steve out of his comfort zone (TINMAN rep Josh told us that because the venue was so small this was the only place they could fit us). To confirm my suspicions we caught an alarming eye from both Carl & Steve at the beginning of the show. To my surprise John and Steve acknowledged the group on the stage several times during the show. IMO all fans like me that purchase M&G concert packages fantasize about meaningful conversations with the rock stars we idolize and that is never going to happen. Case in point numerous people including myself mentioned attending past concerts that drew little or no response from band members. Folks we are probably expecting too much do you really think Steve or other band members are cool with you draped over them? The event I attended last night I told Carl "thanks for making the time to meet us" and it drew a Zero response, do I now hate Carl???  ----no...........

At the Verona Show I got to chat with him for a moment, and while Steve is naturally reclusive (always has been and always will be) he was alright. Maybe he was just having a bad night that night?

Exactly. You're purchasing a ticket to a professional meet & greet,
not a personal friendship. Different celebs, musicians, etc have
different personalities, and some will always be more outgoing than
others. Prior to a show isn't an ideal time to do one of these
either, I'm sure the guys have other things on their minds, like
getting ready for the show. If I want to know what Steve, John, etc
feel or think, well, that's what the music is for. :)

That said, I do think that if you're going to do one of these meet and
greets, and charge for it, part of being professional is to be cordial
to the fans. However without having been there, it's impossible to
know what the deal was with this particular situation.

Some artists just aren't comfortable directly interacting with fans.
Neal Peart is well known for this also. Doesn't make him a bad guy,
that's just his personality.

If Steve Howe was *rude* to the person, then I agree that is not
acceptable. If he was just a little standoffish, well, that's how
some people are. Spending a lot of time alone playing/practicing an
instrument doesn't always make for the most outgoing personalities.

Someone needs to tell that Steve Home guy that impersonating a *real* member of ASIA will only lead to further trouble. Is Home one of John Payne's band mates?

i understand your frustration. but Steve is also a human being. he plays music because it is his job. he doesn't have to meet with any of us, because that is NOT his job. Steve is not a people person. i understand that, and i won't lose any sleep over it.
