Justlike your parents here on earth, your Heavenly Father wants to hear from you and talk to you. When you pray, He listens. Then He answers your prayers in the form of thoughts, spiritual feelings, scripture, or even the actions of other people.

Praying and listening to the answers God gives you can help you better understand your purpose in life. God will help you understand why you are here and what you can do to return to live with Him after this life.

When you privately pray to God, you can work through serious decisions in your life. God always listens and often provides the specific answers and guidance we seek. Even when He chooses not to answer immediately or in the way we might have hoped, prayer itself is a way to find peace.

Jesus fasted for 40 days and 40 nights before He began His ministry on the earth. As He did this, He communed with His Father in Heaven in prayer. Likewise, if you pray and fast, you can feel closer to God and better understand the things He wants you to do.

God always listens to us when we pray. The scriptures show countless examples of prayers God has heard and answered. He continues to answer prayers today. Through the power of prayer, you can get answers to your questions and receive the blessings God has in store for you. Answering prayers is one of the many ways God shows His love.

To be able to tap into this power, we need to look internally at ourselves. Do I wake up and pray as He does? Do I fast and resist Satan like Him? Am I holy? Do I love my brothers and sisters like Him?

Prayer is an integral part of Christian living because praying is our way of communicating with God. We call upon God every time we pray, as stated in Matthew 6:9: "This, then, is how you should pray: 'Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name.'" By praying to God every day to ask for His help and forgiveness, we get closer to Him.

This passage is known as the Benediction Prayer and is commonly used to close church services or bless a marriage. The Benediction Prayer is timeless because of its simple but powerful message: by praying to God, we receive His grace and blessings as well as experience peace.

What follows is an edited version of the manuscript I used to preach the Easter Service at Auburn Church of Christ on March 27th, 2016. All Scripture quotations are from the NIV. You can listen to the audio of this sermon here.

And so I want to talk about that this morning. And I know that might seem strange to you, since many of you might have expected a normal Easter sermon, one based on the Resurrection Accounts. But I instead want to talk about what results from the Resurrection: the power in the lives of believers.

What results from being empowered and becoming like Christ and experiencing God more deeply is that God is glorified. This makes God look great, because He is doing in us what we could never dream of doing on our own.

And, so, I say to to all, pray for power from God, especially today, because as our minds are drawn back to the empty tomb and the Resurrection, we have a reason to pray for that power to strengthen us so that we are more like Our Lord and can experience Him more deeply.

Thinking and Believing contains writings on Christian living, theology, culture, and philosophy. All is aimed thinking more carefully about these important matters, matters that cause so much confusion and splintering among us.

In other words, who you become, the circumstances in your life, and the core of your character are all determined by what you talk to God about. According to the Bible, the power of prayer is, quite simply, the power of God, who hears and answers prayer.

In other words, when we ask God to give us a love for our neighbors, he does. When we ask for patience, he begins to tend to our hearts, uprooting areas of impatience and then provides opportunity to practice patience. When we ask him to be near to us, his presence sweeps in and surrounds us like a cozy blanketed embrace filled with his peace and strength.

This article is part of our prayer resources meant to inspire and encourage your prayer life when you face uncertain times. Remember, the Holy Spirit intercedes for us, and God knows your heart even if you can't find the words to pray.

For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us. For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the sons of God. For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of him who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to corruption and obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God. For we know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until now.

And not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies. For in this hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what he sees? But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience. Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness.

Thou mayest do this if it in thy heart. [That is, try to escape.] If it is in thy heart to fly, fly. If it be in thy heart to stand, stand. Anything but denial of truth. He that flies has warrant to do so. He that stands has warrant to do so. Yea, the same man may both fly and stand as call and the working of God in his heart may be. Moses fled, Moses stood; David fled, David stood, Jeremiah fled, Jeremiah stood; Christ withdrew, Christ stood; Paul fled, Paul stood. There are therefore few rules in this case. The man himself is best able to judge concerning his present strength and what weight this or that argument has upon his heart to stand or fly.

Fourth, be encouraged that in your weakness and sickness and loss and hardship and danger, the Spirit of God is praying for you and not against you. If God is for us who can be against us? So the Spirit is for us here. This is a concrete illustration of God being for us because the Holy Spirit is praying for me and not against me. God is on my side here.

So, I think the analogy there is remarkably helpful and close, and the answer how, first, what does he pray, and now how does he pray is that he creates these groanings, our groanings, at his bidding and guiding and awakening. And then the Father searches our hearts, discerns the meaning of the Spirit and answers his prayer that we would live or die to the glory of Christ.

5. When the Spirit prompts and directs the groanings in our hearts, the ultimate purpose of the universe happens like this. God gets the glory because God the Spirit creates these holy groanings. God gets the glory because God the Father is the one who performs what the Spirit asks. God gets the glory because God the Son purchased for sinners all those blessings with is blood. God gets the glory because our hearts are made the theater of this divine activity. This is the bottom line answer I think.
