Union Budget 2021-22
On 29 January, the Right to Food Campaign issued a statement to draw attention to the alarming state of hunger in the country, that too in the midst of unprecedented levels of food stocks. The Campaign also submitted its demands from the budget to the Finance Ministry, in which it referred to the alarming situation of hunger (learnt, amongst other surveys, through the Hunger Watch conducted by the Campaign last year) and undernutrition (as revealed by the preliminary findings of NFHS 5) in the country.
In light of the abysmal levels of food insecurity, it is shocking that budgetary allocations for the ICDS, midday meals, maternity entitlements, and NREGA for 2021-22 are less than that for 2020-21. To highlight the anti-people budget, the Campaign organized a press conference on 3 February.

Janta Parliament Kisan Session with Representatives of Political Parties
On 12 January, the Campaign participated in the Janta Parliament Kisan Session with representatives of political parties. The resolutions passed and questions raised in the earlier sessions of the Special Kisan Session of the Janta Parliament were posed to senior leaders of Congress, TMC, CPI-ML, CPI, RJD, VCK, AIFB, SP and CPI(M).

Statement of Solidarity with the Farmers’ Protests
Farmers’ protests against the three new farm laws continue to escalate across states. As on 22 January, the eleventh round of talks between the Centre and protesting farmer unions has concluded. The farmer unions told the Government they want a complete repeal of the legislations while the Centre asked them to reconsider its proposal for putting the Acts on hold for 12-18 months. The RTFC had also issued a statement (English/Hindi) against the farm laws.

Solidarity Campaign-Frontline Workers
Feminist Policy Collective (FPC or Collective in short) which is a group committed to transforming the policy and financing agenda to achieve women’s rights and gender equality. They came together with other campaigns and movements in a strong joint effort targeting the Union Budget 2021-22, towards demanding budgetary commitments to fulfil the rights of FLWs. A collective effort to promote the rights of women Frontline Workers (FLW) for health and nutrition, namely the ASHA and Anganwadi Workers/Helpers.
Analyses of National Family Health Survey 5
Some analyses of the preliminary findings of National Family Health Survey 5:
· If improvement is norm, it is important to be alert to patterns of stagnation in child nutrition indicators (Jean Drèze, Indian Express, 2 January)
