Dear All,
refers about a report that is prepared to support the Vedanta University in Puri. Thought this would interest you. In fact I personally found it very interesting to find name of the VC, Sambalpur University because he heads a state owned University and we have not seen any substantial effort under his leadership to make the Sambalpur University world class. But he supports a corporate owned university by none else than controversial Vedanta group. I read a news in local newspapers recently of him going to Kalahandi inaugurating some facility in a Vedanta college. In fact we have not seen any report in the recent past about his attending functions of any colleges in remote areas under the University. (At least I have not noticed!). Is there a connection between going to the Vedanta college and supporting the Vedanta University? Would be interesting to look into it. He has posed himself as a champion of cost cutting measures and has defended in public his stand on privatization of examination system. In an article in the daily Dharitri, he has even narrated how using cars by invigilating teams from the University to colleges is also an unnecessary expenditure.(Remember, during summer when Sambalpur burns at 50 degree the examinations are on. Also, he personally uses an AC car always). But he supports a University by Vedanta which will be taking away land and other facilities from the state at a throw away price. Its interesting and needs to be analysed further by the intellectuals of this state. It would also be interesting to see what measures he has taken to make the Sambalpur University a world class university. In fact, we have never heard from him in support of the demands (that are being made by many now a days) for universities in western Odisha.
I am also surprised by the presence of names of some civil society leaders in this list especially who are posing as champions of environment conservation in the state by organizing high profile events. Perhaps they feel supporting a green criminal like Vedanta is no problem so long they organise events in Bhubaneswar. Is it mere tokenism or real support for environment conservation?
Anyways, let the civil society and intellectuals of the state decide on this and debate too.
Thanks and regards,
Ranjan
He recently came to public defending his move to privatize examination system and in that he had pointed out the use of cars by invigilating teams from the University who go to colleges on duty terming it as unnecessary expenditure. But he supports Vedanta University
Thanks and regards,
Ranjan
