I'm not sure if this works or not. but it sure sounded interesting.
There is also a way to make IR flashlights, which I was thinking of
doing, I just need to find some IR LEDS.

I think good ol' Norvak has those.  They've got a ton of LED types out there.  I know you used to be able to get IR filters for camera lens use with shooting IR film.  I was thinking I could get ahold of some sort of IR filter film/resin and just cover an existing flashlight.  IR LED probably just as easy.

Yeah Norvak has a lot of cool trinkets we should take a trip sometime
and check it out. I think an IR camera would be a good addition to our
equipment.

If we can get ahold of the IR film...

Any other old school b/w photogs here other than me?

Yeah good luck IR film=expensive and requires special handling. Plus I
don't know anyone who can develop it except for one place. It needs to
be loaded and unloaded in a black bag to. I don't know if I believe
that apparitions only come out at night either. I have seen and heard
things in the daylight as well. I believe that sunspots and radiation
can affect electronic magnetic energy so it may be harder for them to
manifest but not impossible. Actually I want to experiment with long
exposure high speed film too. I am not against the idea I know for a
fact it is a difficult medium to work with.

my digital camera is actually sensitive to IR light, meaning if i
make, or get an Ir flashlight, i could shine it, and not see anything
with the naked eye, but i could see it through the camera. We wouldnt
need film then, correct?

Yes digital camera's are sensitive by nature to infra red light. Take
your tv remote control and press any button and hold it. You do not
see anything, now look at the bulb or window of the remote through
your digital camera and press any button. Now you can see the light in
the remote control lighting up. So if you were to build or buy a infra
red light source and you would be able to see in the dark basically.
Here are some sights on some IR (Infra-red) projects and theory. I
hope this helps. The DVR we ordered has the ability to see in night
mode for 25 to 35 feet. So we should get some great interior video. I
know for a fact though ghosts and u.e.'s (Unknown Entities) don't care
what time it is or whether it's day or night. I think tv really is
trying to build up the drama of it all. Just my opinion.

after running through project victor last night I realized I need to
get a better infra red light. the night shot on my camera sucks unless
there are walls for it to bounce off of. I may buy one or try to make
one it would be interesting to try and build a big one and put it on a
tripod or something.

Yes I agree we need to see about that AFTER we get the DVR setup going
and tested. We will see what distances we can see and we will have to
measure them to so we will know exactly how to place them.

I dont think the DVR system is going to have any issues I think they
can see up to 60ft in total darkness. I would like to get something
for my handheld so when we are doing walkthroughs I can scan the whole
room. Im going to see if I can pick one up for cheap or build one,
Chris said something about norvak or the gizmos store having LED
lights.

Yup, there's not much to those IR LEDs but the high output ones might cost a bit more. We'll just have to look around a bit and see what will work.

just get a regular LED flashlight, buy some IR LED's, some resistors,
take out the regular leds, put the IR ones in, and hook up the
resistors and you should be good.

arent the ir leds and regular leds the same? i thought it was just a
lens? it would be better if we got some we could mount on a stand so
we could illuminate the whole room.

If anyone has an old Lite Brite it would work well for making a larger light source. Check it out. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080309205917AA4ja2V

Oh the hours I spent creating all sorts of things with my Lite Brite! Oh, or those fashion plates you could change out, mix and match, and do the pencil rubbings.

Oh my, I just dated myself.
