The Fiscal Year (FY) 22 U.S. Assistance to Firefighter Grant (AFG) Application period opened 01/09/23 and closes 02/10/2023.

The AFG program is requesting names of interested evaluators for peer review of applications the week of March 13, 2023 at the National Fire Academy (NFA) in Emmitsburg, Maryland. Travel days for in-person panelists will be arrival on Sunday the 12th, and departure on Friday the 17th of March.  In order to use the FEMA GO system for reviews, each panelist will need to bring a laptop with current browser versions installed. Training will be conducted prior to the event, along with a login test to ensure panelist laptops are compatible with the FEMA GO system.

To be considered:

First, you must not have been a peer reviewer during the FY 2021 AFG review. Second, email Fire Certification Supervisor Kayla Ballrot at kayla....@dpsst.oregon.gov by 1700 on January 17, 2023 with the following information:

  • Name
  • Fire Department
  • Position and Title within Fire Department
  • Daytime Phone
  • Evening Phone
  • Email Address
  • Certifications
  • An email from your Chief or Supervisor showing their support and approval
  • Short bio (less than 500 words) with your fire service and grant experience. Bios of more than 500 words may be cut short

Peer reviewers must have an advanced understanding of “all hazards” capabilities of fire department (i.e., fire suppression, EMS, Hazmat, rescue, hostile events). Panelists should possess broad knowledge in a variety of areas within fire and emergency medical services, since they will be reviewing applications from fire departments located throughout the United States. Panelists should also have basic knowledge of the AFG grant program and its funding priorities. This knowledge base for panelists will help maintain the integrity of the peer review approach.
