The memorial service to honor Gresham Firefighter Brandon Norbury is planned for Wednesday, February 15, 2023, at 1 PM. The service will be held at East Hill Church Auditorium Building, 701 N Main Ave Gresham, OR 97030. A small procession of local fire and law enforcement vehicles will bring Firefighter Norbury and his family members to the service.

Gresham Fire is asking the public to pay their respects along the procession route if they would like to do so. Seating will be limited at the event venue. Public viewing along the procession route will be available on NW Eastman Pkwy, between NW Division and W Powell Blvd. The estimated time for the procession to pass through the public viewing area will be between 12:30 PM and 12:50 PM. We ask that the public use caution, stays on sidewalks, and remains out of the roadway.

We plan to live stream the service, and more details will be sent out next week.

Firefighter Norbury suffered cardiac arrest while in the line of duty and did not survive despite receiving emergency medical attention. “This is a difficult time for our Gresham firefighters. We truly appreciate the support from our community members and the Oregon fire service. Brandon devoted his entire life to public service, from being a Navy SEAL, a Gresham Police Officer, and spending the last 15 years as a Gresham Firefighter. This is a tremendous loss”, Gresham Fire Chief Scott Lewis said.

We estimate a large presence of fire service and law enforcement personnel with vehicles. Parking will be limited around the event site.

Information for the Fire Service

No procession is planned for the general fire service and law enforcement communities. A small procession will be conducted by Gresham Fire and Gresham Police. Fire service vehicles attending the service will be parked around the East Hill Church Auditorium Building, 701 N Main Ave Gresham, OR 97030. The approach for the apparatus is at NW 8th St and NW Earl Ave. Apparatus will need to arrive no later than 11:30 AM to allow for parking and for uniformed personnel to be seated. An Honor Corridor is pre-arranged by the Honor Guard, and currently, there is no special request for the event day. Fire service agencies are asked to notify the event planning of their intent to participate with both personnel and apparatus, use the following link: https://tinyurl.com/2p8j3m8w. Please have one contact person complete this form for each agency. Any updates will be sent to that person.

For more information about the service, please contact Gert Zoutendijk at gzout...@lakeoswego.city.

The Honor Watch still needs public safety personnel to stand vigil over Brandon until the service. The location has changed to Gresham Fire Station 71 Headquarters, 1333 SW Eastman Pkwy. Please use this link to sign up for a time slot https://casketwatch.org/brandonnorbury.

For any questions regarding the Honor Watch, email Amanda Schmitt at ofshg.stat...@gmail.com.

Information for the Media

The media is invited to the event, and a media area will be available inside the venue. We expect a large presence of fire and law enforcement from all over Oregon and out of state. We ask that media find parking around the downtown area and not try to park in the church parking lot. During this time of grief, the family is not available for interviews. I ask that you let me know if you will be attending and if there are any special requests.
