The Indiana Department of Health published a flyer yesterday alerting the
refugee community that Daw Tway and Daw Kyin, two products commonly used as
digestive aids by the young children of Burmese refugees, have high levels
of arsenic and lead. These are potential lead and arsenic poisoning
hazards—please tell your Burmese refugee clients, whether you are in
Indiana or elsewhere, to avoid using these products.
To learn more about these products, arsenic and lead poisoning, and the
coordinated testing by the Indiana health authorities and the Centers for
Disease Control (CDC) to investigate elevated blood lead levels in Burmese
refugee children in Indiana, please read the attached flyer, which is also
