We have a great opportunity to make 2012 the best year for the Libertarian Party of Oregon, and an urgent need to make it happen, and we are already half-way there!
In Oregon, major parties receive a state subsidy in the form of a primary election, mailed to the house of every one of their members at taxpayer expense for the purpose of choosing political candidates. In the past, the Libertarian Party of Oregon has held only nominating conventions with very limited attendance at our own expense.
Well this year is different!
Instead of holding a nominating convention, we will be mailing ballots out to all 13,000+ members of the Libertarian Party of Oregon to select our candidates for office. Unfortunately, since this has never been done before, few Libertarians in Oregon know that they are going to receive this ballot, nor how to place themselves on it as a candidate. They also don’t know how to get invo9lved with the party, and have never been invited!
To be a successful political party, the most important measures are how many votes your candidates receive. Therefore we would like to have as many candidates as possible, as many active volunteers as possible, support as many activists as possible, and that is why we need your help.
To send out an information packet to all of our members so they will know how to get started on a campaign and contribute to our election process will cost approximately $5000. The good news is that we already have $2800 of it covered and we are already more than halfway there! (Editor’s note: $200 came in while asking for help on proofreading, so we only need $2000)

We have an opportunity to dramatically grow the level of participation of Libertarians this year and make a major impact. Dissatisfaction among youth voters has rarely been higher and people are looking for new ideas and new options.
More than anything, politics requires tireless dedicated people, and we have over 13,000 members who identified themselves as libertarians. There has never been a better time to rally them and build an organization that will lead us to future electoral victories. You are receiving this message either because you are already a dedicated members of our national organization or I personally know you.
Please make your best contribution to help elevate the Libertarian Party of Oregon to the level of Oregon's major parties. We can't wait any longer. We would like to get the printers started first thing on Monday!
