Hello,

for our unit tests with the live API we use this entry:

My questions are:

  • Did the ORCID team approve this entry?
  • Will it be always available?
  • Is there something similar in the sandbox database?

Hi Stephan,

Thanks for bringing this account to our attention. This record is not approved and will not remain available. We do our best to keep the Production ORCID Registry accurate, maintaining accounts only for real people representing their researcher career. It looks like this record was set up by a member for testing and I'll be contacting them to remove it and locking the account.

For testing on production we encourage you to set up an account for yourself or a researcher you work with, or if you must create a test account, delete it as soon as your testing is done.

On sandbox you are welcome to create as many test accounts as you need, however we do not guarantee data on the sandbox.

Best,
-Catalina

I think there are more accounts of this type:

Thanks. We'll contact the account holders and lock these accounts this week.

Thanks again,

I'm aware of two test accounts operated by ORCID:

http://orcid.org/0000-0001-5727-2427 (Sofia Garcia)

http://orcid.org/0000-0002-1825-0097 (Josiah Carberry)

Are they supported/ guaranteed to survive? Are there others?

Hi Andy,

As you said, those accounts are maintained by ORCID staff as we use them in our example documentation, and we do plan to continue supporting them. The only other test accounts are those used by individual staff members for testing, these accounts are registered to real people, the data in them just isn't always accurate. If it would be helpful for anyone we can link the two example accounts to an integrations or add additional data to them.

Best,
-Catalina
