On Saturday, December 18, ORCID will be migrating our database to new hardware. 

During this transition the ORCID Registry, including the Public and Member API and the ORCID Registry user interface, will be unavailable for up to 30 minutes starting 1pm UTC.

In the weeks leading up to the downtime, we need to make configuration changes to prepare the migration. When we make these configuration changes, there may be a small number of failed API calls, or users may need to refresh their browser. The degradation in service will only last for a few seconds, the number of failures will be small, and we expect the impact to be minimal. We apologize for any inconvenience caused.

During the outage, all calls to the ORCID Registry and APIs will return a 503 response code.

The response body will contain an HTML page explaining the outage. This page will be shown to users visiting the Registry UI, including the OAuth authorization page.
