FactoryTalk Linx is the most modern, secure, best performing, and preferred communications platform for Integrated Architecture. Our premier communication platform software provides one access point to your data, allowing both FactoryTalk and third-party software shared access to control equipment.

FactoryTalk Linx software delivers a solution from small applications running on a single computer with a single controller, to large distributed and even redundant data server configurations communicating with large automation systems. This software is specifically optimized to work with Logix 5000 Programmable Automation Controllers (PAC) and the PlantPAx process controller using EtherNet/IP.

The FactoryTalk Linx portfolio is the only communications platform that is designed, tested and built alongside the Logix hardware and software that powers The Connected Enterprise. Modern operations are more data-driven than ever before.

New details on key features rolled out in the previous and current versions of FactoryTalk Linx? Look no further! Our FactoryTalk Software Version History includes incremental changes made to software releases or major features that have recently been added.

I have been looking for a solution as well. I have studio 5000 v30, as well as v30 emulate. I have the factory talk linx, rs linx lite, as well, and I have yet to be able to get it to work. If you find any answers, please post here.

The current OPC DA client driver available on v2.4.3 is unable to connect to RSLinx Classic due to some bugs present on the third-party library we are using. During the past few weeks, we have been working on a new OPC DA driver since many users still use RSLinx Classic. We are expecting to release a preview version of v2.4.4 early next week, which will include a redesigned OPC DA driver together with several performance improvements related to OPC UA and several bug fixes. You will be able to find the download of preview v2.4.4 on the Announcements category.

Hello Sir,
I have everything all set up on my laptop. (Studio 5000, Rs Linx OEM, EMULATE) I have also updated to the current FIO 2.4. I absolutely love the FIO package and I am excited to get this to work with emulate as I have a really nice controller which I have to yet to wait in order to get repaired. (L27 ERM). It is very important to me to begin writing my code for some of my FIO creations. I have had alot of success with Siemens, Do More(Automation Direct). I appreciate any input or feedback.
Thank you,
and Best regards.

Hi, I found a way to connect Studio 5000 Logix Emulate to Factory I/O. The connection is through ethernet using FactoryTalk Linx Browser, Studio 5000 Logix Emulate, and Studio 5000. I have tried it using all the latest versions of AB softwares (v32) mentioned but I think it would work with versions that support FactoryTalk Linx browser as well.

I only have studio 5000 v30, and unfortunately there is no option to select rslinx or factorytalk linx from the communiciations tab. Even with no project file open. I will explore a bit further. Thanks for the feedback.

I had Rslogix 5000 program downloaded to Rsemulate and had Rslinx OPC topic setup. The rslinx version is Gateway, and the OPC server can be seen from RSLINX OPC test client, which means the rslinx opc server has been successfully setup, I assume.

Now when I come to ignition to setup the OPC-DA for rslinx (I saw one of the post recently saying that rslinx should be setup on OPC-DA instead of OPC-UA), the status for this OPC server is always faulted.

Classic OPC is based on COM, which is a technology in Microsoft Windows. Therefore, the information in this section only applies to Ignition Gateways installed on Windows. For other operating systems, OPC UA must be used.

I believe FactoryTalk Linx supports the (more) modern OPC UA protocol. If FT Linx is an option, I would recommend pursuing it.

Even better is to configure RSLinx Classic and FT Linx together to permit IA's native driver (and any other products) to make ordinary EtherNet/IP connections to Emulate5000. Then you just have to repoint your driver when moving from development to deployment.

The simplest method of getting into PLC Programming is to use an emulator. However, locating the proper files may be troublesome as Rockwell Automation has created a very intricate process to access them. Furthermore, downloading from third-party sites may be unsafe due to viruses and corrupted versions of the required software.

Our walk through starts at the Rockwell Compatibility tool. This website allows one to download all the available software built by Rockwell Automation. However, most of this software will require a license. There is an exception however for legacy software as well as firmware revisions.

A standard RSLogix 500 version will require a license, however, there's a package named "RSLogix Micro" which is a lite version. It doesn't require a license. That being said, we will type in this name and look for the following shortcut: RSLogix Micro Starter Lite w/oRSLinx EN (8.30.00)

On the next screen, you will find the software with two buttons: "Download" and "Add to Download Cart". Selecting the "Add to Download Cart" will not download the tools we're looking for. Instead, this will download the v16 of the firmware for the MicroLogix1100 PLC. Therefore, it's important to select "Download" as shown below.

From the next page, you will be redirected to a firmware download. It is thus important to hit the "+" button which will expand the display and show the different versions available for download. Note that selecting anything above v11 will only give you access to the firmware. However, selecting v11 as outlined above will bring up the menu we're looking for.

Once you click the "Download Button", you should see the following popup from which you can select the appropriate tools.Make sure that they are selected before you hit the top right"Download" button.

At this point, you will need to create an account and login in order to confirm the download. Although you're required to log in, there will be no prompt for a license for these tools; they are absolutely free.

After logging in, you will be able to select the preferred method of downloading these files. I'd personally recommend the "Managed Download" for the same reasons as outlined by Rockwell Automation: safe transfer and file verification.

At this point, you'll have access to the three tools you need to get started with RSLogix 500 PLC programming. These are the most commonly used tools for engineers to get into control systems programming. Make sure to check out other PLC Programming tutorials to get started.

RSLinx software is a communication server package that provides plant-floor device connectivity for a wide variety of applications. RSLinx software can support multiple software applications simultaneously communicating to a variety of devices on many different networks. RSLinx software provides a user-friendly graphical interface for navigating through your network. Select a device and click to access a variety of integrated configuration and monitoring tools. A complete set of communication drivers is provided for your networking needs, including Allen-Bradley networks.

RSLinx Enterprise is your preferred data server. It communicates via FactoryTalk Live Data (our client/server communication protocol) with FactoryTalk products. FactoryTalk products and RSLinx Enterprise share FactoryTalk capabilities of security, diagnostics, audit, and redundancy. RSLinx Enterprise is typically included with all FactoryTalk products so you do not need to purchase the data server separately.

RSLinx Classic is the most widely-installed communication server in automation today. RSLinx Classic Lite can be used either as an application or service. RSLinx Classic Lite, RSLinx Classic OEM or FactoryTalk Gateway as an application provide the ability to program controllers, flash firmware and batch sequencing.

It is important to understand some basic concepts about FactoryTalk and RSLinx Enterprise before you begin working with RSLinx Enterprise within the FactoryTalk Administration Console. For more detailed information about FactoryTalk, refer to the FactoryTalk Help. FactoryTalk Services Platform Formerly known as FactoryTalk Automation Platform, the FactoryTalk Services Platform is an underlying architecture and set of services that Rockwell Automation software products build upon.

The FactoryTalk Services Platform includes two separate directories: a Local Directory and a Network Directory. In a Local Directory, a Directory Server, all project information, and all participating software products are located on a single computer. Local applications cannot be shared across a network. A Network Directory organizes project information from multiple

Network applications are held in a FactoryTalk Network Directory. Project information and participating software products can be located on multiple computers distributed across a network. All of the computers participating in a particular Network application share a common Network Directory Server located on a network computer.

Design-time versus runtime RSLinx Enterprise is comprised of design-time and runtime components. The design-time components provide the user interface that enables you to set up devices, drivers, and shortcuts that are ultimately used by the runtime components. Based on this configuration data, the runtime components execute read/write requests received during runtime operation.
