Hello,
Thank you, everyone, who attended yesterday's meeting. We had a great
turn out.

Special thanks to Marshall Payne of GeoNorth for providing a great
presentation. Clearly Marshall has some exceptional experience and
insight, and we all appreciate his taking the time to present to us.

I have posted Marshall's presentation as well as the ESRI white paper
he made reference to on the Google Groups website, under Files.

I will be sending the sign-in sheet to those who attended the meeting,
for your reference.

I am checking in with the NW GIS User Group to see if we might be able
to meet for lunch on Thursday at the Sun River Conference (Oct 15).
Tentative topic is: Review of various API's and general thoughts of
what we've learned during the week. I have not verified a meeting
room yet, so stay tuned. I'll let you know.

Upcoming Topic Discussions:
* Many seem to still be on the fence for which API to use. I would
like to collect a little more information from you to help this
discussion. (see below).
* A discussion on map services - which services are available; are
they prepared for others to use; map projection; coordination of base
map services. etc. I would also like a little more information from
you to help this discussion (see below).
* Web Application Development - with the different API's this could be
tricky. Initial thought is to present two different API applications
in one day; take a break; then break out to two groups to discuss
technical "how to's".
* Strategy for Web Application Development - There are many common
tools we will all need - search, navigation, etc. Possible discussion
is how to set up our applications to allow for "components" or
"widgets" to fit in; and share these components. For example, a flex
version of searching by township/range/section; another in
Silverlight, Javascript, etc. I would really love it if we could find
a presenter who could walk through an example of how to take an ESRI
sample and turn it into a component.
* Round Room on tips for debugging. For those new to programming in
these API's, getting the standard error can be difficult to interpret.
What are tips in getting better feedback on errors, steps in checking
your service, etc.

Your Input:
If you don't mind, please send me (mort...@wrd.state.or.us):
* Any available mapping services for public use. Can be draft.
* Any mapping services you are planning on developing
* What mapping services do you need? (common themes for view or for
query).
* Any websites you have up and running
* Anything you think the group should be aware of on this subject.

This list isn't intended for the rest of the group to start hitting on
the services. It is intended to find out what has already gone on or
is planned, so we can minimize duplication of efforts; share what we
know; enhance services that could help more than one application; etc.

Thank you again for a successful meeting. Please feel free to provide
candid feedback.

Dorothy
