I've used the Main Title and Cantina Band #1 from Star Wars, as well as Imperial March from Empire. Duel of the Fates from Phantom Menace is also quite nice as musical pieces go, though I can't quite bring myself to use it as a ringtone due to its association with the PT.
For phone calls I used to have a ringtone of Trivium's Into the Mouth of Hell, but that is a unprofessional and a little inappropriate for the environment I work in ( K-12 School). For calls I have the default ring, for text messages and email I have sounds from Super Mario Bros. when I get a text it's the 1-up sound and when I get an email it's the coin sound.
Still a big fan of Weird Al singing "ringtone", from his ringtone song... I've not added that to my new phone yet. I've also got a collection of Star Trek sound effects I haven't gotten around to plugging in yet.
Mario coin for work emails, and I switch off between Dean Winchester's guitar and the Doctor Who theme for ringtone. I used to have Matt Smith saying "You've got a text message. Text messages are cool." as my notification sound, but I had to silence it because it was constantly going off :(
I refer to my ringtone (Doctor Who theme, 10th Doctor) as the "nerd finder". When my phone rings in a public place I almost always get someone looking around for the source of the music. Its downside is watching Doctor Who marathons. I keep thinking my phone is ringing.
When I was at the Con waiting for the elevator someone in the queue got a call and his ringtone was the Metal Gear Solid Codec sound. I honestly thought that was brilliant so now I'm probably gonna steal his idea! Would be a nice addition to the Gameboy startup sound which I use for text messages.
