I'm testing Orangescrum and I struggled for hours trying to use my gmail account for sending email notifications. I went through all the suggested fixes on this list and on Github...all to no avail. What finally fixed the issue was going through Google's troubleshooting for what seemed like an unrelated error. The error I was getting when using the mail send test was:

Simple Email Caught exception: Invalid email: "emailId"
Template Email Caught exception: Invalid email: "emailId"

Open-ssl was active and port 465 was open on Gmail.

What finally fixed the problem was going through Google's troubleshooting for a "Password incorrect error." Here's the link:

It seemed like the first action on the list actually fixed the problem, which unblocks a device that has previously been blocked by Gmail. I've setup dozens of project management systems using OnlyOffice, Odoo and EspoCRM and never encountered this problem before...so very odd. Anyway...thought this could help others that face this problem.

Interestingly...when I run the email test using:

I STILL get the same error message despite the fact that email using Gmail is now working. Here's the error:

php_openssl in php.ini is enabled

ssl://smtp.gmail.com:465 () is open.

Simple Email Caught exception: Invalid email: "emailId"
Template Email Caught exception: Invalid email: "emailId"

So email is now working but the test is still throwing an error.

Hello Draacool,

It  seems "Allow less secure apps" option is disabled in the gmail setting
Please login your gmail account and open this "https://myaccount.google.com/security"  URL, find "Allow less secure apps" option in the given URL and change it to "Enable".

If you still face any issue please send the error.log file path is (app/tmp/log/error.log) and a screenshot of the error message to sup...@orangescrum.com

Best Regards

Hello Team Orangescrum,

I already did what was in the manual.
  1. disabled 2-factor authentication
  2. enabled less secure apps
but I still the following error

php_openssl in php.ini is enabled

ssl://smtp.gmail.com:465 () is open.

Simple Email Caught exception: Could not send email.

Template Email Caught exception: Could not send email.

The app/tmp/log/error.log has no entry. See the screenshot of the error...

What should I do next?

Sheila

Hello Leandro,

These issues specifically occur when the hosting server is not configured properly with mail server.

Hi Atta,

Evaluating the response, we found that you have added the valid emailid in the test URL.

Please run the following URL to check email is working or not:

http://DOMAINNAME/cron/test_email/?to=emailId

Example:

http://localhost/orangescrum/cron/test_email/?to=emailId (if you are using localhost)

http://127.0.0.1/orangescrum/cron/test_email/?to=emailId (if you are using IP)

http://myprojects.orangescrum.com/cron/test_email/?to=emailId (if you are using any valid domain)

Add a valid email id at to='emailId' inform of a...@domain.com

Also, we would suggest you refer to below email to set up SMTP.

Hope this helps!
