Hey Everyone,

So there is one last assignment before fall break (unless of course you guys have your outlines/speeches). IT IS DUE NEXT THURSDAY, THE 4TH AT MIDNIGHT.

Teaching a group of your peers has proven to be a valuable exercise, but what changes would your presentation undergo if you were suddenly faced with a new audience? Would you discuss hybrid cars with environmentalists in the same manner that you would with executives of a major petroleum company? What specific alterations would you make to your research, organization, and delivery appeal to a variety of audiences? The ability to adapt to different listeners will make you a better public speaker. We ask that you choose one specific, persuasive topic and write a 1-2 page paper on how you would present this same idea to three disparate audiences. Make sure that you research each audience type to determine demographics, psychographics, and Belief-Attitude-Value Systems. Tie in your research experience from Assignment 1 to outline the major sources you would employ to get your point across to even the most hostile crowd. The building-block/audience analysis paper counts for 10% of your grade.

Also, your audience paper should be on your persuasive topic, because otherwise you will have to rewrite the essay on your actual topic. Start emailing Nick, Professor Berggren and I to approve your topic.

Best,
Alex
