MISSING PERSONS
Shumba Taylor (RhAF) Writes:-
Does anyone know the where about's or the e-mail  Brian Amos can be contacted on.
Replies to

CHAS KEANLY IN THE U.K.
Chris Nineham (RhAF Writes:-
We must be getting old. Look at the table, each one has a pair of specs in front of them. I do notice that the beer takes pride and place though, good for them.

MAGARUQUE SCUBA DIVING
Shumba Taylor (RhAF) Writes:-
I remember the wonderful trip we all had to that island.
Please let Archie know that a pic of ALL of us will be in the mail soon, and does he remember Mama Alves
very energetic Piri- Piri sauce sold in a Canada Dry bottle.
Thanks also for the memories.

WAL-MART THEME SONG
Every one is sending me photos of Wal-Mart. Here is the song.
Refer:

A question from ORAFs. Are these Wal-Mart photos for real and if they, are are these folks allowed to vote?

LAKE KYLE PHOTOS
Terry Last (RhAF) Writes:-
I recognised Danny Strydom from Dave Bowman's photos but not anyone else. I'm sure we worked on the same squadron, provosts and vampires, at Thornhill, during the 60's.
It's good to see so many faces that I still remember on all the photo's that are sent in.

Brian McKelvin. (RhAF) Writes:-
It is absolutely amazing how those Minis were used in Rhodesia! They went almost anywhere, on any roads with all sorts of loads, you could always find some space for everything! They could put today's 4X4,s etc., to shame.
The one Ray is sitting on looks like an Austin Cooper, similar to one I owned.

Al Tourle
Fletch Jamieson Writes:-
I recall Stretch Franklin (ex sas) telling me that they were on a tracking exercise in the Kariba area when the lion took Al off a large rock on which he was sitting whilst on stag ! I also seem to recall the incident took place not long after ' last light ' and have a feeling that Andre Rabie may have been with them at the time but not certain of that !

SIR GODFREY HUGGINS VISITS R.A.F. 266 (RHODESIA) SQUADRON
Mike Hamence (RhAF) Writes:-
Fifth from the left, in the group of pilots sitting on the wing (picture left), was Sgt Geoff Harding; we would meet up 23 years later in SOAF. The 'Chieffy' with the handlebar moustache was F/Sgt Crone - his party piece was 'Daniel in the Lion's Den'; each verse ended: "'Kin 'ell, 'kin awful".
Little me is hiding at the back behind him.
The erks called S/Ldr Baxter, 'Queeg'.
Hlabezulu!

FAIREY SWORDFISH" STRINGBAG"
Louis D. Hartley Writes:-
My uncle Jock (Ft Lt. J.V.) Hartley schooled at Plumtree school, was commissioned into the Fleet Air Arm from Rhodesia. He was one of three v brave pilots who flew their Swordfish aircraft - down to wave top level to deliver a torpedo attack on the huge German battle ship Bismark (this ship had enormous defensive power AA guns).
One Torpedo hit the rudder -disabling the ship ! The Royal Navy arrived and completed her destruction.
Jock- was blown out of the sky in Op Torch -N. African coast in Dec of 1942. Apparently he lies buried in a Commonwealth war grave near Tripoli !

Jack Lawrence (RhAF) Writes:-
Really made my day - when waiting to do my aircrew training in 1954 I was lucky enough to be given a ride in their Swordfish, I was based at Lee on Solent, the Swordfish there then, is I think, the same one the Historic Flight still flies, almost 60 years later. Just for interest the RN one used to have a machine gun and radio equipment in the back cockpit which when removed left room for, I think , 4 passengers. carrying the dummy torpedo it was a bit sluggish and in a side wind flew sideways still can't understand how they flew against Taranto and the Bismark. Thanks again for awaking old memories.

FORMAL DINNER/CASINO NIGHT
Dave Rawlins (Rhodesian Army) Writes:-
Terry Griffen sent me the latest News Letter with the Dinning In Night with Clifford DuPont and my Dad. I was actually at that evening and remember that we were all dead on our feet as young subbies but we could not leave until our venerable Guest of Honour had left.

DON ESTERHUIZEN
I wish to thank all of the wonderful people that sent us such kind encouraging words when Donovan Esterhuizen was so ill in hospital and with his passing. I really appreciated every one and drew comfort from the way you all thought of him and remembered him. I must apologise for taking so long to convey my appreciation. I myself have been ill with this flu ever since Don's passing, so please forgive my lapse in manners. Thank you to all who attended his memorial service and the kind, funny words and anecdotes you told. May God bless you all and keep you safe. Don's widow, Helen.

SEEKING
Liz Smith Writes:-
I have friends in Newcastle RSA (ex-Rhodesians) who have lost contact with friends from Selukwe. Frans posted a "help" on Face Book but had no response.

I wonder if you would mind putting it on ORAFS. The couple he is looking to renew contact with are:
Sean and Mona O'Connor and they lived in Selukwe.

Should you get a response (and I have a gut feel you will!) you can direct them to: Frans Schoon - his e-mail address is:
schoo...@gmail.com  or fransjo...@telkomsa.net
