LikeThe title suggests, try giving information on games that have had their Servers Shut down over the past few years. Even Give a update on which servers are planned to be Shut Down in the near future. The purpose of this Thread is to warn or even help people who are planning to buy a Online game for the platinum. I know that some people don't like to play a game and later learn that the game is impossible to platinum. Not because of difficulty, but because of impossible access to the requirement. For instance, I made the very stupid mistake of not platinuming White Knight Chronicles 2 when the servers were up. But when i learned 2 months ago that the servers were shut down on June 18, 2013 the platinum has now become incredibly hard to get(it's still due able, but with lots of struggle).

I know some people will say, "well just play the game for the enjoyment, and be done with it". But the thing is, some of us here have become trophy perfectionists over the years(even if we may not all admit it). It just bothers some of us to see that game list unfinished, and then get irritated that it wasn't because we lacked the skill to do it. But because we just couldn't.

So just post which servers shut down or plan to go down with a deadline date. If you plan to "last chance" a platinum, you can link a topic or session in your post to the regarded game you are planning to last chance. This thread may help people avoid adding a fixed incomplete trophy list to their profile. Not all of us are fully informed on the games we play, so information regarding this topic could be critical to many others.

Okay it took a while, but i have managed to put as many Shut Down titles as i could, I put the dates just as a reference(some may be wrong, but based on what i found i typed it on what others believed).

Guess I can't get 100% in Battlefield 1942 after May then. Or Red Dead Redemption for that matter either, but I don't think that'll really shut down though.

Bah, I don't care anyway! Stopped actively going for trophies for a while now.

Lost planet 3? What?? That game's pretty new. I just played on LP 2's servers not to long ago. They are gonna stay up but 3's are gonna shut down? Weird..... Guess i'll never buy that one as i'm assuming it has online trophies.

You have 58/57 days left, that's enough time to get them. But since a lot of the MK Sessions don't always go as planned...who knows...I actually ended up doing all the Online trophies by myself. Except for the King of the Hill Trophies where I had to find a dedicated partner who shared the same amount of points as me. Seeing as how these games now have a deadline, people are right now more motivated to get them done. Putting them aside isn't an option anymore, so i would recommend making a gamming session with the first word saying "Servers will shut down soon" to attract attention. Also some are saying they might not shut them down, but it's best to assume they are to finally get it done, then to feel sorry when the day comes when they do shut down.

I guess LP 2 was hosted by a different Server Provider. Some companies are trying to switch, but as Gamespy stated, all games hosted by their servers will be shut down permanently meaning LP3 will be caught by the deadline unless they decide to switch Server Providers.

I spend about $12,000 a year on various DIY projects. Over 85% of those purchases are made from either Amazon, Home Depot, or Lowes and are fairly evenly distributed among these three great companies.

I took some time to reflect on my purchasing decisions and make some notes regarding the factors that influenced those purchases. It's a meaningful exercise for anyone interested in process improvement. Some people who read this article will not think some of this information is very important. That's fine. I get that. That is part of the reason I am writing it down.

Most often the price of the product is not the deciding factor. Prices all seem to be within a very close and competitive range from one store to the next. Shipping costs often do impact decision making. Home Depot and Lowes both offer "ship free to store." I very rarely use that because my Amazon Prime ships it right to my door for free. A lot of building products can not be shipped free because they require freight delivery. I do have those shipped to the store to save shipping costs if I have to order online. I generally don't mind driving over to the store if it is in stock and I can actually see it and "get it now." I won't drive over to a store in the next town however. Proximity matters a lot when shopping for bricks and mortar at bricks and mortar stores.

Home Depot has the best tools. No doubt about it. Whoever evaluates their tools does a great job. For power tools, I almost always buy Makita Products. Home Depot has them. Lowes does not. Amazon also sells them through a number of vendors. I have ordered a LOT of Makita tools from Amazon. Mainly because they have the best selection and they are easy to find online especially if you have the model number. Home Depot's online search is not as good as Amazon. Even though Home Depot search is not as cluttered by promotions and other products that you are NOT searching. Amazon is the world's worst at this. It's hard to be the world's worst at anything. But they are.

I have started buying my lumber products from Home Depot. When purchasing lumber, I always purchase on-line and then pick up at the store. This saves me time and work. I just pull into the contractor parking right outside the building materials area. Someone usually helps me load it.

There are a number of reasons that I buy most my lumber from Home Depot. The main reason the quality of the lumber seems consistently better. When I buy from Lowes it seems like the people doing the order picking select the worst pieces. I feel like I get other people's "culls" because lumber at these big box stores gets picked over so much. When you order online, the store picks your pieces. I suspect they just select the first piece they find on top of the stack. This is why consistency in quality is so important. This problem would not exist if every piece in the stack was of the same quality.

I don't know how Home Depot manages to stock better quality lumber than Lowes but they do. If I were the manager of a Lowes store, I would have the department manager come get me every time a new load of lumber arrives from the vendor. I would not even let them unload some of the lumber I see in the racks there.

Another pet peeve of mine is the way products are labeled. At Lowes they find a way to staple on labels and tags on both the ends and also sides of the product. So many times I have sliced by hands on these staples. I know it's almost impossible to get a label to adhere to the end of a piece of lumber. I don't mind a couple staples on the end. But NEVER on the sides. Camfor company manages to securely glue the labels on the ends which is ideal.

I did package engineering for two years at Western Electric. Rang up millions of dollars in cost reductions. Even with low cost as a primary objective, one of our cardinal rules was: "Never place an adhesive label on the finish of any component or product." This so annoying on merchandise I get from not only Home Depot and Lowes, but also Office Depot Office Max, and Staples. They apply labels right on your product that you can't get off without using a solvent like mineral spirits. It only costs a penny more to change the tack of the adhesive or use a Mylar laminated label that can be removed.

Products should clearly labeled in large print you can easily read. Not only to make it easy to find but to help manage and organize inventory more effectively. Good labeling reduces the probability of a customer removing an item from the shelf and then mixing it with different stock when they put back on the shelf. Good labeling also helps reduce mistakes by stock keepers and check out people as well.

Packages should be easy to open and use. I hate these blister packs where there or no tabs or perforations requiring you to cut the thing open. I am all for tamper proof labeling and packaging but it has to be easy to open and dispense.

At Western Electric we were one of the first electronics manufacturers to use blister packs. A company called "Sealed Air Corporation" had what they called "Simultaneous Multiple Sealing and Cutting Equipment." Mostly at that time it was used by the pharmaceutical industry. We used it to package millions and millions of circuit packs. The Telco installers hated these packs at first. One day we had a package valued at $8,000 returned because the Southern Bell installer (union worker) had gotten so frustrated that he cut the back of the package all the way across with a razor knife and scored the PCBs. It destroyed the circuit packs. We warrantied that product at our cost. We also changed the blister packaging to have perforations and a tab on the card side of each package to allow for easy opening. Expensive lesson learned. The more important thing here was not the $8,000 but the level of frustration that the poor package design was causing our customers.

Packaging and labeling is largely the role of individual suppliers. However when I was with Western Electric I took a strong and active role with purchasing and vendors to get both packaging and labeling done in a way that helped facilitate use throughout the supply chain and manufacturing process.

I dread going inside our local Home Depot store to try and find anything. The store is cluttered. Stock is poorly organized and maintained. Very often have to get somebody to get on a ladder or fork truck and rummage through the backup stock stored overhead or underneath. Aisles are cluttered with material and promotional items making it hard to get through. Inventory accuracy actually seems pretty good considering the general public is plundering through it on a constant basis.
