NorthCarolina educators were recruited and trained to write new items. The diversity among item writers and their knowledge of the current standards was addressed during recruitment. Trained North Carolina educators also review items and suggest improvements, if necessary. The use of North Carolina educators to write and review items strengthens evidence of content validity of EOC assessments.
For an in-depth explanation of the test development process, see North Carolina State Board Policy TEST-013: Multiple Choice Test Development or reference the Test Development Process: Item, Selection, and Form Development document.
Subsequently, Academic Standards and Test Development staff from the NCDPI met to review the recommendations from the teacher panels and adopt final weight distributions across the domains for the course.
Some content standards in the North Carolina Essential Standards for Biology will not be directly assessed in the tests because the standard cannot be appropriately assessed during a limited time test using multiple-choice and/or technology-enhanced items.
The EOC Biology Test is provided only in English. Native language translation versions are not available. North Carolina G.S.115C-81.45(a) requires all teachers and principals to conduct all classes other than foreign language classes in English.

The Florida Department of Education and committees of experienced Florida educators developed and approved the specifications documents for Florida's end-of-course (EOC) assessments. Each specifications document defines the content and format of the assessment and the assessment's items for item writers and reviewers and indicates the alignment of items with the applicable standards for each assessment. They also serve as a source of information for educators and the general public.
The availability of EOC assessment test item specifications does not extend to and specifically excludes any use for commercial purposes. All reproductions of these publications, or parts of these publications, must include the copyright statement found on the second page of each of the Specifications documents.
Placement into an introductory biology course is based on the student's score on the IMR Biology Placement Exam. Cutoff scores and placement recommendations are derived in collaboration with the School of Integrative Biology and are reviewed annually. The policies below apply to all students entering the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in Summer 2024, Fall 2024, or Spring 2025.
To access released items from the computer-based tests: View the released items using the ePATs (electronic practice assessment tools) at the MCAS Resource Center. A released-item answer key is provided for each ePAT.
Visit the MCAS Resource Center to access practice tests for ELA, Mathematics, STE and Civics. These practice tests are an important tool for familiarizing students with MCAS test formats and item types.

The Biology placement test is only for Pre-Nursing, Pre-Rad Tech or AAS-Paramedic or other Health Sciences degree-seeking students as determined by the Biology Department. This exam is for PPSC placement only.
The Biology placement does not give credit for BIO 1111 but allows a student to skip BIO 1111 and place into BIO 2101 and/or BIO 2104.
Students are required to participate in the ILEARN Biology End-of-Course Assessment (ECA) upon completion of the high school biology course to fulfill a federal participation requirement. The ILEARN U.S. Government ECA is available per state legislation as an optional assessment for students upon completion of the high school U.S. Government course. A student may only have one test attempt for any given ILEARN assessment. There are no retest opportunities available for ILEARN assessments.
Each online ILEARN assessment consists of a computer-adaptive test segment and a performance task, and fixed-form test segments for social studies and U.S. Government. Fixed-form tests are not adaptive and available only as an accommodation for students with formal accommodations.
ILEARN measures the breadth of Indiana Academic Standards. This means that all standards are represented in the test blueprints, including content area literacy, media literacy, listening, and computer science standards and the item specifications. Indiana educator committees collaborated with content experts to create the ILEARN test blueprints and item specifications.
Scores will become available to relevant users through the Cambium Assessment, Inc. (CAI) Centralized Reporting System. Schools will provide results to students and families locally using the Individual Student Report (ISR).
Item Specifications define exactly how each standard will be measured on an assessment. Item specifications are used by professional item writers to create items and include information such as evidence statements, Depth of Knowledge requirements, and sample items.
Per the recommendations of the 2016 ISTEP+ Panel, IDOE is leveraging quality content from third-party item banks for use on ILEARN assessments. These item banks are accompanied by item specifications which will be utilized where alignment was confirmed by Indiana educators.
**Some third-party ILEARN Item Specifications include content beyond the scope of the associated Indiana Academic Standards. For these specifications, only portions that align to the Indiana Academic Standards are used for ILEARN. Indiana educators approved alignment of items to each standard. For additional information regarding Science Item Specifications, please see this document.
IDOE releases 10 items from each ILEARN grade-level assessment every year in accordance with Indiana Code. These items may be used as sample assessments to familiarize students with test content and format.
The Biology exam covers material that is usually taught in a one-year college general biology course. The subject matter tested covers the broad field of the biological sciences, organized into three major areas: molecular and cellular biology, organismal biology, and population biology.
The exam gives approximately equal weight to these three areas. The exam contains approximately 115 questions to be answered in 90 minutes. Some of these are pretest questions that will not be scored.
Note: Each institution reserves the right to set its own credit-granting policy, which may differ from the American Council on Education (ACE). Contact your college to find out the score required for credit and the number of credit hours granted.
Students wishing to take MAT 2410 placement test need to complete the ACCUPLACER Next Generation QAS & AAF placement tests and score a minimum of a 280 on the AAF portion OR earned a C or higher in MAT 1340 OR have ACT Math score of 28 OR SAT Math score of 650.
Quantitative Reasoning, Algebra & Statistics (QAS) - Rational numbers, ration and proportional relationships, exponents, algebraic expressions, linear equations and linear applications, probability and sets, descriptive statistics, geometry concepts.
Our Math Refreshers are a great opportunity to brush up on your math skills and prepare for your next math classes. ACC students can use the following steps to register for the Math Refresher Course.
The Biology Placement Exam is designed to allow students who have a solid background in general college biology to place out of General College Biology I (BIO1111). BIO1111 is a pre-requisite for some of the upper level (200 level) courses offered in the biology department at Arapahoe Community College. This includes Anatomy and Physiology (BIO2101), Microbiology (BIO2104), and General College Biology II (BIO1112). This pre-requisite is in place to ensure that students entering higher-level biology courses have the background knowledge (and laboratory skills) they need to be successful in 2000-level courses. Students who score a 75% or higher on the Biology Placement Exam will be permitted to enter 200-level biology courses without taking BIO1111, but will not earn credit for BIO1111. It is $10 to take the Biology placement exam.
Please note that all students who take this test have only ONE chance to pass it. If a score of 75% or better is not earned on the first try, the student will be required to take BIO1111 before they will be allowed to register for higher-level courses for which BIO1111 is a pre-requisite.
Only students with comprehensive background knowledge of general biology should take this exam. This may include students who took a college-level biology course during their academic careers but credit for the course is not transferrable to ACC; or professionals who are coming back to school and have worked in a field directly related to cellular/molecular biology and/or biochemistry.
This exam is not intended to be a substitute for taking General College Biology I and students who have not had a previous formal college biology course are not likely to pass. Students who take the test and score 75% or higher will not receive credit for BIO1111.
