Position: Senior Oracle DBA

Location: NYC, NY( in person interview is must)

Duration: 12 months

 

DB2 and Snowflake and looking for this person to help with performance fine-tuning of large database operations we have across 20+ applications. The expectation is for this person to be local DBA and DB2 & Snowflake expert for the rest of the developers globally. Snowflake preferred but not essential

 

8+ Years of experience as Senior Database Administrator (Oracle, PostgreSQL, SQL Server(Knowledge), AWS) Database Administration & Management

  • Oversee end‑to‑end administration of Oracle, PostgreSQL, and SQL Server database environments, ensuring high availability, security, and optimal performance.
  • Perform installation, configuration, patching, upgrades, and migration of database systems across on‑prem and cloud environments.
  • Design and implement backup and recovery strategies, leveraging RMAN, pgBackRest, native SQL Server backup tools, and AWS Backup.
  • Conduct proactive monitoring, capacity planning, and performance tuning using AWR, OEM, pg_stat views, DMVs, and cloud-native monitoring tools.
  • Performance Tuning & Optimization
  • Diagnose and resolve complex database performance issues involving SQL tuning, indexing strategies, execution plans, database parameters, and storage optimization.
  • Optimize large-scale OLTP and OLAP workloads for reliability and efficiency across multi-database platforms.
  • Manage and support AWS RDS (Oracle, PostgreSQL, SQL Server) instances, including provisioning, scaling, monitoring, and security.
  • Deploy and maintain AWS Aurora PostgreSQL/SQL Server where applicable.
  • Implement automation using AWS services such as CloudWatch, Lambda, Systems Manager, IAM, KMS, and CloudFormation/Terraform.
  • Support cloud migrations including schema conversion, data migration, and cutover planning.
  • Implement and enforce database security standards including user management, roles, auditing, encryption, and patching.
  • Maintain compliance with corporate and industry standards (e.g., access controls, data retention policies).
  • Conduct regular vulnerability assessments and remediation.
  • Architect and maintain HA/DR solutions such as Data Guard, Oracle RAC, Always On Availability Groups, PostgreSQL replication, and AWS multi‑AZ replication.
  • Develop and regularly test DR playbooks and failover procedures.
  • Automate repetitive DBA tasks using Python, Shell scripting, PowerShell, or PL/SQL.
  • Develop and maintain database maintenance scripts and automated alerts.
  • Provide advanced troubleshooting for production incidents with strong root cause analysis.
  • Support 24x7 on-call rotation for critical systems.
  • Collaborate with application teams to support database‑related development, deployments, and performance improvements.
  • Partner with engineering, DevOps, and application teams on designing scalable, cloud‑ready data solutions.
  • Lead database modernization initiatives, cloud migrations, and cross-platform upgrades.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior DBAs and engineers.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation for database configurations, standards, and operational procedures.
  • Advocate for continuous improvement in database architecture, automation, and operational workflows.
