Hello everyone,
Each year, Harvard Hillel puts forth an enormous amount of logistical and institutional work into ensuring we have spaces to run services, during the yamim noraim and year-round.
Harvard
Hillel provides us with space to daven and host social events, sifrei
torah to read from, and security, including when Harvard is out
of session. This summer, Rav Jason and Hillel staff coordinated with organizations across Cambridge to ensure we could continue normal operations even as Hillel itself was closed over shabbat.
Harvard staff not only support overall
building operations, but also contribute directly to the running of the
minyan - even beyond Rabbi Ethan, Hillel staff keep the building open for
us, arrange for security and janitorial services associated with our
events, and even print the cantabs.
While the Orthodox Minyan doesn’t
request dues from its members, it’s crucial that we contribute to
maintaining the space and manpower required to keep the Orthodox Minyan
functioning. To that end,
make sure that you register for high holiday services through Hillel.
Community members are strongly encouraged to
make the full suggested donation to Hillel with their registration.
Additionally, though current Harvard students are not required to make
donations with their registration, we know that many choose to give
tzedaka around this time of year. We hope
that members of our minyan show hakarat ha’tov for everything Hillel
provides in many ways, but especially as the costs associated with
running a Jewish organization continue to rise, that one of
those ways is supporting Hillel’s operations financially.
General Hillel high holiday information can be found here.
Looking forward to a shana tova,
Julia and Maya
Co-Chairs, Orthodox Minyan at Harvard Hillel
Please
note: Donations to the shabbat fund are dedicated only for
shabbat-related activities of the minyan and do not support Hillel’s
overall operation. Please be sure to donate to Hillel more broadly for
these purposes.
