THE ORTHODOX MINYAN AT HARVARD HILLEL
Shabbat Ki Teitzei
Shabbat: September 5th-6th, 2025 | 13 Elul, 5785
Shabbat Shalom! ALL DAVENING IS AT HILLEL THIS SHABBAT!! Additionally, we will be maintaining the 9:15am davening start time this week.
For those who are new to the community, welcome! Hillel's address is 52 Mt Auburn St. Beren Hall can be found by taking the stairs (in front of you as you walk in) up to the second floor, and following the hallway as it goes right. The women's entrance is the set of glass doors at the end of the hall. Access the men's entrance by following the hallway past the women's entrance, and then using the door on your left, just before the emergency exit.
This week is Parshat Ki Teitzei which is perfect for our bird theme as it includes the mitzvah of shiluach haken (and also a bunch of other mitzvot less related). Please enjoy this bird themed, AI generated poem related to the parsha.
Shiluach Haken
Upon a tree or by the road,
A mother guards her small abode.
Her wings spread wide to shield her young,
A silent song, unsung, unsprung.
The Torah calls with voice so clear:
If you draw close and she is near,
Do not take both—be slow, be kind—
Let mercy shape your heart and mind.
Send her away—then you may take
The eggs, for kindness' sake.
And in return, your days will grow—
A blessing only God can show.
A lesson deep in gentle laws:
Respect for life, creation’s cause.
Even a bird, beneath the sky,
Is watched with care by God on high.

Camberville Eruv: The Camberville Eruv is in need of new checkers! The eruv is divided into 3 sections, with checkers specializing in one of the sections. Currently, one section is understaffed. It is covered by only two teams of checkers, which means these volunteers have to check every other week! Are you able to help out and volunteer to check the eruv? Typically, the commitment is to check once every 3-4 weeks, but there is some flexibility with this. Please let the eruv leadership team know if you are interested or have any questions by emailing Amy Robert at info...@nceruv.org
Please familiarize yourself with Harvard Hillel's exits in case of emergency. In addition to the main staircase, there are exits through the door behind the men's section and through the door to the left of the elevator. This section is now back in business! Welcome back to Hillel! In continuation of last week’s other news, Barry, I told you, stop flying in the house! - Hey, Adam. - Hey, Barry. - Is that fuzz gel? - A little. Special day, graduation. Never thought I'd make it. Three days grade school, three days high school. Those were awkward. Three days college. I'm glad I took a day and hitchhiked around the hive. You did come back different. - Hi, Barry. - Artie, growing a mustache? Looks good. - Hear about Frankie? - Yeah. - You going to the funeral? - No, I'm not going. Everybody knows, sting someone, you die. Don't waste it on a squirrel. Such a hothead. I guess he could have just gotten out of the way.
