A picture of an Aerospoke wheel set from DaveC:

Tech specs from the company:
http://www.aerospoke.com/tech_info.php

These would be the weights:
Front Mountain wheel + hub: 1268 g (1090 + 178) or 2.79 lb
Rear Mountain wheel + hub: 1456 g (1090 + 366) or 3.21 lb

In comparison...
Front TAG FRX5, 1831 g (1597 + 234 for QR) or 4.03
Rear TAG FRX5, 1951 g (1597 + 354 for QR) or 4.30
Ref: http://www.tagwheels.com/frx5.aspx

In comparison...
Front Mavic Crosstrail: 795 g (1.751 lb)
Rear Mavic Crosstrail: 955 g (2.104 lb)
Ref: http://www.mavic.com/mtb/products/crosstrail.995210.1.aspx

So weight-wise the Aerospoke are about in between the Mavic and the
TAG. They could be a good compromise for that extra bling on the
streets.

Mr. Daoust,

These look really neat. Are they as strong as TAGs? I remember seeing
a video from the TAG sites where they slammed the wheel against a
curb, *hard* (perhaps off of a jump, I couldn't tell by the video) and
it held up fine. How strong are they compared to that? I only saw an
anecdotal testimonial about a guy dropping one off a mountain, but
that wouldn't be under load (a 65 pound bike plus a 200 pound guy
behind them at 20 MPH against a hard spot), it would have been just a
4 pound wheel in free fall, maybe even windmilling! (or gliding?) Does
anyone have data on how tough they are. We ought to have Jaime "Stress
test" them! : )

As indicated in the first line of my post, those fine wheels are from
a picture posted by DaveC. If you want to send him an e-mail, his

The TAGs may be stronger but whether or not you need that much
strength depends on your riding. It you beat the hell out of the bike
on trails and jumps the TAGs may be a better fit.

If you mainly do street riding like I do and do not jump ramps or
hills then I think the Aerospokes may be better due to less weight and
less side wind resistance.
