The OB1 is back for 2012, and in honor of the anticipated 2012
apocalypse, we are only building 12. In addition to ultra top end
components and our new off road only 48v 1100w Rohloff Speedrive
system, we turned the artists at Gunslinger Custom Paint loose to
create these one of a kind beauties- one per month.

The pictures of the first one is here:

Look for some more pictures late next week that will do this beautiful
bike more justice than my android phone could...:)

OB1 #1 of 12 sold to an overseas buyer last week.

The 2012 OB1 has an MSRP of $23,999.00

Let's see at today's gold price, that's 13.8 oz of gold. You should
just get paid in gold.
Ok, that's way over the top, but who cares, looks great.

Oligarchs, rap stars, drug dealers, pimps and thieves, etc.-- IOW the
usual suspects <g>.

Seriously, though, look at the kind of dough so many Joe Blow hobby
motorcyclists spend on custom builds (see Orange County Choppers and
the like). Granted that niche is a LOT bigger just due to sheer
numbers but I give Jim a lot of credit for carving out a niche early
on with high-end turn-key e-bikes. I also give him and Craig gold
stars for being able to sell these in a very wobbly economic
environment.

All well and good for them,... so long as Optibike doesn't forget
their real fans, who actually ride the bikes, and want to be able to
afford the high performance system without all the extras and costs.

I look at it a different way, if Optibike can make a lot of money on
the rich, it helps the company survive and furthers R&D. Possibly it
can help subsidize less flashy bikes for the rest of us, kind of a
trickle down economics. As long as technology advances we all benifit.
Kind of how airlines make more money on First class and keeps coach
affordable for others - although one could argue all of Optibikes are
at First Class prices : ). But really, a company will charge what the
market will bear; hopefully it will mean better, more affordable bikes
in the future, and an american company that survives.

Why is it we pussy foot around the price , Get real the price is
ridiculous . If Opti think the general public is going to pay $24000
dollars for an OB1. They are dafter than they look .
Sadly some people have more money than sense and will buy.
I just hope opti realise, the people that have got them where they are
today are not all loaded .
In fact its made my mind up, I am done with talking about this crap.

The OB1 is, and always has been, a work of moving art.

Yes, technically, it is very similar to the 1100R- and then we put a
one of a kind, artist designed, $10,000 paint job on it.

There is a reason we only build 12- because it is a LIMITED EDITION,
and not designed for mass-market appeal. They are designed for
individuals who want a true one of a kind.

I am sorry if a one-off limited edition electric bike sold in series
of 12 only somehow offends anyone.

Credit to Craig for admitting it's a $10K paint job, and more power to
Opti if they can sell a dozen or so at this admittedly inflated
price.

Totally agree with newoptibike that the profits from these high end
bikes help subsidize R&D costs for the entire mainstream line.

It's no secret that GM and Ford for decades made their nut on loaded
SUVs and pickups--that's been going on from at least the 1970's. My
best friend from college worked at a family GM truck dealership in
Auburn, MA and always said they couldn't keep enough of their loaded
trucks/SUVs in stock.

These are far different, much shakier economic times for sure, but the
psychology amongst the affluent remains the same IMO, and smart
marketers don't second guess the few customers with wallets wide open.

That is not expensive I just went by a high end audio shop and listen to $350,000 sound system. 2 speakers 2 amps 1 pre amp and some cable, in fact I think the cable cost more than the bike. Now that is crazy voodoo
