Has anyone ever attempted to tap into the Opti's power system to make an accessory power outlet to power tech like a nav or cell phone? That would be a handy thing to have. Should be a standard feature at this point in time IMO.

I recently came across this device and thought it to be pretty cool.

The back end power for it comes from a dynamo. Would be a fun project to wire it into the Opti's power instead of using a dynamo. Is there a good tap point up in the Opti's console? Anyone know?

Thanks,
Snuffy

There are a couple of places you could tap, likely all of which would could void your warranty. The switch under the frame back by the seat post has all the power of the battery, I remember someone on this group tapping that for a rear light. That is at battery voltage, not something more useful like 12v. In the control head is 12v because that's what they use for the lights. I imagine if you swapped the halogens for led lights you would have some extra power there for something else. What do you want to power? I use the stock headlights, which I supplement with a helmet light so I can point it. I hate cords going to my helmet so I use a self contained light (Jet Lites F3, which is nice and bright). I use a self contained tail light that runs about 100 hr on 2 AAA batts. My gps (Garmin 800) runs about 14 hours on its internal battery, so I guess I'm wondering what you'd want to power?
Cheers,
John

Thanks for the replies. I was thinking along the lines of a cell phone. Makes sense that 12V would be up in the control head due to headlights. I may try wiring in something like this…
