Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Cassandra Database Administrator with strong expertise in Cassandra, Couchbase, and distributed NoSQL database environments. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing, maintaining, optimizing, and scaling large-scale database clusters while ensuring high availability, performance, and reliability across enterprise environments.
Key Responsibilities
Administer, monitor, and optimize distributed NoSQL databases, including Apache Cassandra and Couchbase.
Perform cluster management activities such as node provisioning, cluster expansion, capacity planning, performance tuning, and troubleshooting.
Manage Cassandra clusters using tools such as NodeTool and DSETool, and Couchbase environments using CBQ.
Execute database backup, recovery, and disaster recovery operations utilizing NodeTool snapshots, DataStax OpsCenter, and Couchbase tools.
Perform SSTable migrations and data movement activities across live Cassandra clusters with minimal downtime.
Monitor database health, performance, and capacity using DSE OpsCenter, Prometheus, and Grafana.
Analyze and resolve performance bottlenecks, replication issues, compaction challenges, and cluster stability concerns.
Collaborate with application teams, architects, and stakeholders to design scalable, highly available database solutions.
Implement best practices for database security, availability, and operational excellence.
Support production environments and participate in troubleshooting critical incidents.
Required Skills & Experience
8+ years of database administration experience with strong focus on Cassandra and Couchbase.
Deep understanding of Cassandra architecture, including:
Gossip Protocol
Peer-to-Peer Communication
Replication Strategies
Compaction Strategies
Incremental Repairs
Consistency Levels
Strong hands-on experience with:
NodeTool
DSETool
CBQ
DataStax OpsCenter
Expertise in backup, recovery, cluster maintenance, and database performance tuning.
Experience with SSTable migration, data movement, and large-scale cluster operations.
Strong monitoring and observability experience using:
Prometheus
Grafana
DSE OpsCenter
Experience working with large-scale, multi-tenant, highly available server environments.
Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with PostgreSQL or other relational databases.
Hands-on experience with cloud platforms such as AWS and GCP.
Experience supporting enterprise-scale production environments.
Knowledge of automation and infrastructure management tools is a plus.
