Hey,

I think the core of the problem with protected territory is that it doesn't allow for the feedback that would drive the evolutionary process necessary to create fitter* hackers. Many of the skills that comprise hacker tradecraft require an open environment to learn and develop (read: its dangerous being a noob, best do it somewhere safe). However, if the hacker stays forever in this "safe" environment, the skills that are necessary to survive in a harsher climate never develop to maturity. It is too late to start learning good OPSEC skills once the environment turns hostile.

cheers,

* fitness defined as the ability to conduct operations in such a manner as to be able to conduct future operations. In a way OPSEC for hackers can be defined as the skills, techniques and habits that enable the hacker to continue hacking in the future.
