Hi,

We've recently created an Amazon Web Services machine image and a VirtualBox image to help you get up and running with being able to set up you own OppiaMobile server.

Both the images come with all of Django, virtualenv, database and OppiaMobile server pre-installed and set up, so hopefully it will help take the hassle out of configuring your own server, especially if you are new to using the Django framework.

For more information on how to install these images please see:

AWS machine image: https://oppiamobile.readthedocs.org/en/latest/aws.html
VirtualBox image: https://oppiamobile.readthedocs.org/en/latest/virtualbox.html

We'd be very happy for any feedback on this,
Cheers,
Alex

Hi Alex,

Thank you so much for the two images.

Quick feedback: I have downloaded and imported the Virtualbox image and I am getting an error message at boot:

error: file not found
grub rescue>

My environment:

Host OS: Windows 7 Professional, 32 Bit, Service Pack  1

Virtualbox: 4.3.6 r91406

Did you manage to reboot the Linux machine after installing? I am sure its an issue to do with Ubuntu and Grub 2.

Thanks and Regards
Ronald Munjoma

Hi Ronald,

Thanks for the feedback - I've been able to stop and restart the image several times, although my host OS is Ubuntu too. The images were built with the exact same version of VirtualBox you're using - so shouldn't be a versioning issue.

The issue may be to do with the GuestAdditions - I think I had the .iso file mounted as virtual CD image when I generated the image - so probably this is the problem. I'll rebuild the machine without this and upload again so hopefully it will then work.

I'll post again once I have the image uploaded.

Cheers,
Alex

Hi,

alternatively - you could just try unmounting it from the image settings before starting up the machine?

Might take bit of a while to upload the new image as my connection is being a bit slow today for uploading a ~2gb file!

Cheers,
Alex

Hi Ronald

Just uploaded an updated version (without the GuestAdditions .iso attached as virtual CD drive) so hope it will start up this time.

Would be good to know how you get on

Cheers,
Alex

Hi Alex,

I have downloaded and installed the updated image.

I can boot and login to the menu, the top menu is missing.  I will investigate further and advise.

When I log into moodle I only have the option to import a course.  How do I create a new course without importing an existing course?

Thanks and Regards
Ronald Munjoma

Hi Ronald
Thanks for the info.,

On our Moodle server, you currently just have permissions to edit the course that I've already created for you, rather than create new courses too.

Would you like me to create another course(s) for you to edit?

Cheers,
Alex

Hi Alex,

You are welcome.

I am referring to the install on the VM, when I visit local host in the browser, I get a welcome administrator screen, with an option to import a course, but no option to create a new one.

Note so important: I can not access port 8080 and danjo admin url, which are in the browsing history.

Thanks and Regards
Ronald Munjoma

Hi Ronald,

For setting up the courses in the django server, you'll need to upload a course package that has been exported from a Moodle server using the Oppia export block - the courses aren't created directly in django.

If you log into our Moodle server (http://moodle.digital-campus.org) with the log in details I sent before, you should be able to export your course from there, then you can upload into django server.

The post 8080 in the browsing history is probably just a hangover from when I was setting up the Django server (and hadn't moved to the standard port) - everything on the machine is running on the normal http port 80.

Hope that makes sense.

Cheers,
Alex

Hi Alex,

Thank you so much for the clarification.

I was confusing the Moodle and Opia servers.

Thanks and Regards
