Option for adding discussions into the app

Hi all,
Currently the Oppia app doesn't have any facility for discussions/messaging etc. However we're keen to add this type of functionality, but preferably without having to build from scratch and/or replicate.
I'm aware that some people are using Oppia in conjunction with WhatsApp - but of course this means that the discussion is quite disconnected from the content, since you're in a totally separate app.
I've been looking at Telegram (https://telegram.org/) to try to bridge this. Telegram is a chat/messenger app (very similar to WhatsApp), but it has an open API and the app code is all open source (https://github.com/DrKLO/Telegram) - so it could be a good option to be more tightly integrated into the Oppia app.
Am interested to hear if anyone has already used the Telegram API, or if you have any ideas for how the intergration could work?
