Hi all,

Currently the OppiaMobile Android app supports any Android version over ~v2.1, however since this version a lot has changed in Android, with respect to coding practices/patterns etc.

From our stats on the core OppiaMobile app (see below), we have about 12% of users using anything under v4.

My feeling is that almost all phones on the market now come with at least v4 - though I'm really interested to know if this holds true in other African countries, Ghana, Zimbabwe etc. If you have any information or strong opinions on whether we should/shouldn't continue to support v2 and v3.

Just to note that of course, users with older phones would still be able to install/use the current versions of the app - just that they wouldn't get the new functionality.

Cheers,
Alex

Hi, Alex!
I'm contributing from Tanzania, and I'm just soon started to use OppiaMobile with my students and some faculty. I think, the idea is good so that you can efforts to android versions that are currently used. I think in my simple observation in Tanzania especially Dar es Salaam city, most of people using these smartphone buy more recent one.

But also one thin I have noted, OppiaMobile also might be lagging behind from the versions it supports. This is because when we were setting to mobile modern version of Sumsung (known: Galaxy Grand Prine - Duos) oppiaMobile couldn't install well, when you oppen it says, Oppia Mobile crashed, If there is a solution to it please, I welcome.

Thanks for the info Yohana,

For the app crashing, does this happen every time you try to open the app - or did it just happen once after the installation? We've noticed some issues after first installing the app ( we think it;s to do with how it recognizes which sd cards are present in the device) - and we're trying to get these fixed up.

Cheers,
Alex
