FordRacing is a racing video game series consisting of seven titles released for various platforms, including the PlayStation, PlayStation 2, Microsoft Windows (PC) and Xbox. The games in the Ford Racing series center around racing modern and vintage Ford cars and trucks through specifically designed tracks, while competing against computer-driven (and sometimes player-driven) opponents. The series began with the release of Ford Racing in 2000. The latest game, titled Ford Racing Off Road, was released in 2008; the game featured the addition of vehicles from Land Rover, which was owned by Ford at the time.

Ford Racing was released for the Windows in November 2000, followed by a PlayStation version released in January 2001. Elite Systems developed the Windows version, while Toolbox Design developed the PlayStation version. Both versions were published by Empire Interactive. The game features 12 Ford cars from both the United States and Europe lines and 9 tracks on which to race. The game features a career mode with several different types of races and the ability to upgrade the cars with various upgrades.[1]

Ford Racing 2 was released on October 28, 2003 for the PlayStation 2 (PS2), followed by releases for Windows and Xbox later that year. Gotham Games and Razorworks developed the game, which was published by Empire Interactive and Take-Two Interactive. It was released for the Mac OS X in October 2004 by Feral Interactive.[4] The sequel includes 30 Ford cars, 16 racing tracks, the ability to race head-to-head, over 30 challenges and other features.[5]

Ford Racing 3 was released in Europe on October 29, 2004, followed by a U.S. release the following year. The game was released for Windows, PS2, Xbox, Game Boy Advance (GBA), and Nintendo DS. Visual Impact Productions developed the GBA and DS versions, while Razorworks developed the other versions. Empire Interactive and Global Star Software published the game, which includes 55 different types of Ford vehicles and 14 different tracks.[8]

On Metacritic, the PS2 and Xbox versions have a score of 50 and 58 respectively, each indicating "mixed or average reviews",[9][10] while the DS version has a score of 49, indicating "generally unfavorable reviews".[11]

Ford Mustang: The Legend Lives, featuring only Ford Mustangs, was the next game in the series.[12][13] It was developed by Eutechnyx and published by 2K Games, and released for the PS2 and Xbox in April 2005. The game features 40 Mustang vehicles dating to 1964. The game features three single-player game modes, and includes 22 race tracks set in seven U.S. cities.

In 2006, Empire Interactive partnered with Sega Amusements Europe to develop an arcade game based on the series, titled Ford Racing Full Blown. The game was released in Europe in March 2006.[16][17][18]

Ford Street Racing, developed by Razorworks, was released in 2006, for Windows, PS2, PlayStation Portable (PSP), and Xbox. The PSP version was published by Eidos Interactive, while the other versions were published by Empire Interactive.[19]

Ford Racing Off Road, released outside of the U.S. as Off Road, is the latest game in the series, released in 2008 for Windows, PS2, PSP and Wii. Off Road was developed by Razorworks and published by Empire Interactive. The game features 18 officially licensed Land Rover and Ford vehicles, 12 detailed tracks and 3 different off-road environments (Desert, Water and Ice).[20]

Ford Performance is Ford Motor Company's division responsible for designing the brand's highest-performance vehicles. Some notable models from the high-octane wing include the Mustang GTD, F-150 Raptor, and the GT supercar. It also includes Ford's racing teams in NASCAR, Formula Drift, and soon, Formula 1.

Ford has a rich history in racing, including its legendary 1966 win with the GT40 at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Up until Ford Performance's creation, Ford's racing efforts consisted of Ford Team RS (Europe and rally), the Special Vehicle Team, and Ford Racing.

Then, in 2018, Joey Lagano won the NASCAR Cup Series Championship behind the wheel of a Ford Mustang stock car. More recently, Vaughn Gittin Jr. won Formula Drift in 2020 behind the wheel of the Mustang RTR.

As the first new production vehicle under the Ford Performance division, the Mustang Shelby GT350 wooed enthusiasts with its naturally aspirated Voodoo flat-plane-crank V8 engine and six-speed manual transmission.

With its newest high-performance Mustang, Ford Performance is going after European track weapons such as the Porsche 911 GT3 RS. The Mustang GTD uses the same supercharged 5.2-liter V8 engine as the Mustang Shelby GT500, but it's been stoked to produce more than 800 horsepower. Only around 1,000 GTDs will be produced.

The Ford GT was introduced in 2004 to honor Ford's 1966 victory at Le Mans with the GT40. The second-generation GT supercar arrived in 2017, replaced the old model's mid-engine supercharged V8 with an EcoBoost 647-hp twin-turbo V6, and debuted the famous Flying Buttress aerodynamic design.

In 2022, the Bronco also got the Ford Performance treatment. The Bronco Raptor uses Fox shocks similar to the F-150 Raptor and a 418-hp twin-turbo V6 engine and is inspired by trucks used in the King of the Hammers off-road race. It rides on massive standard 37-inch tires.

A mid-summer tradition, the WeatherTech International Challenge with Brian Redman at Road America, taking place July 11-14, 2024, is one of the largest vintage racing events in the United States. The WeatherTech International Challenge road race features over 400 vintage and historic racecars competing across several days.

Like the first-generation Bronco that took the 1969 Baja 1000 outright, new Bronco 4600 builds on this winning tradition starting with a 2021 Bronco two-door SUV with stock powertrain running on a competition-tuned High-Performance Off-Road Stability Suspension (HOSS) System.

Testing of Bronco 4600 begins later this month, with the race vehicles going on to run this year in ULTRA4 alongside factory-backed Bronco 4400 series race vehicles also revealed this week at King of the Hammers in Johnson Valley, California.

Bronco 4600 series teams feature an all-star lineup of off-road racing veterans, including Fun-Haver teammates Vaughn Gittin Jr. and two-time King of the Hammers champion Loren Healy. In addition, a Bronco 4600 will be driven by teammates Jason Scherer, a three-time King of the Hammers champion and Bailey Cole, seasoned racer in ULTRA4 and Score Baja 1000 winner in class. A third Bronco 4600 race team includes Brad Lovell, who has won championships in ULTRA4, and his brother Roger Lovell, a professional engineer who has used his talents in off-road design and also has multiple off-road racing wins and championships.

Make no mistake, the Ford cars have been fast, just not quite fast enough to produce any wins yet. At the race in Atlanta, the razor-thin margins at the finish meant 0.003 seconds was the difference between first and third.

"Been close to a couple of (wins)," said last season's Cup series champion Ryan Blaney, who just missed out on the victory in Atlanta and has three top-five finishes. I don't really get into panic mode too easily. Just understand it is a long year."

A Ford win in Austin would seem like a long shot in NASCAR's fourth run on a track built for Formula One. Road course specialists Tyler Reddick (Toyota), New Zealand's Shane van Gisbergen (Chevrolet) and Chase Elliott (Chevrolet) rate among the race favorites.

Chevrolet has three wins and Toyota has two this season, as Ford teams and drivers try to understand the nuances of the Mustang Dark Horse body style that was supposed to provide better handling and aerodynamics.

Daytona 500 winner William Bryon will start from pole position on Sunday, with Ty Gibbs, Reddick and Christopher Bell the top qualifiers right behind him. Byron earned his only career road course win last year at Watkins Glen.

The Circuit of the Americas is the only track used by NASCAR and F1, but the two racing series have vastly different styles. F1 cars lap the 3.4-mile circuit, with its steep elevation changes and 20 turns, about 30 seconds faster than the stock cars. F1 also races with much stricter track limits than NASCAR.

NASCAR will be enforcing track limits through a series of s-curves in the first sector. But look for drivers to use every bit of the sweeping runoff areas around several turns, most notably on No. 19 before the cars enter pit row.
