This message is for all the women with OPLL, except probably Tia,
cause she's to young to be going thru the change, or perimenapause or
menapause, and she didn't state she had a hystorectomy.
I am 50 and just recently started experiencing perimenapause symptoms
including night sweats and mood swings mainly. I'm grasping at straws
again, but I have read that women that have gone thru menapause have
to be more concerned about osteoporosis because womens bones can
become thinner, I'm wondering if this will be a good thing for me and
others with OPLL. I have also read in a report that OPLL women don't
usually have Osteoporosis. This last statement would seem to make
sense to me, because our bodies are forming too much bone anyways,
including the wrong places, aka our posterior ligaments, and on other
ligaments and joints.
So, now my question is to all the gals that have been thru menapause,
or got it instantly thru a hystorectomy. When did you go thru the
change or have a hystorectomy? and my second question is are you on
hormone replacement therapy? The third and last question is when were
you diagnosed with OPLL?
I am wondering if taking hormone replacement helps keep the bones
from thinning, but also helps to keep the opll growing too.
I know Nancy, Dawn, Sunny and Jane said they had hystorectomy's. I
don''t know where Jan is at with the change of life.
Thanks all for your help.

An interesting question, Pam. I had a partial (uterus only)hysterectomy when
I was about 45 but the gyno left my ovaries. I am actually not sure when I
when through the change.........I guess I was very lucky! They did not
diagnose my opll until this year at age 62. I didn't take hormone
replacements. Sorry , not much help from here on this.

Hi Pam,

I was about 53-54 when I began menopause, and I'm now 61.  No hysterectomy yet, and no hormone replacement therapy either.  Luckily, my family genes don't include any female related cancer.

I was diagnosed with OPLL in late 2002 when I was about 54, although the symptoms of OPLL began years earlier when I was about 47.

Howdy Pam,

I had a hysterectomy when I was 39,  I still my ovaries so no replacement hormone therapy. I also wanted all to know that I finally got my CT scan and I am waiting for the results.  The growing bulge on my sterno manburial joint is something the Dr.s have never seen,  Also I was the talk at the CT place, they asked me for my MRI report and I gave the the cd too...I am a very interesting case they said.

Take Care, God Bless and Have a Great Day!

Hope all is well and thank you all for your continued support and prayers!  Hugs to all!

Hey Ladies,
I had my partial Hyst. 4 yrs. ago. I kept my ovaries and cervix. I've had perimenopause symptoms symptoms since 43 or so. I thought I might have gone through the change since for a year I didn't have the symptoms of hormone fluctuations, spotting but last month they came back. I do wonder about hormones involvement. I used to have irregular periods, heavy flow and huge fibroids. I probably would have had infertility issues but I had my children when I was young. I had 3 wonderful daughters by the time I was 27.

Hi everyone
I don't think I'm much help. Had hysterectomy at 58 - the total
thing taking ovaries etc Had signs of menopause prior as in night
sweats, the odd hot flush etc but nothing much to bother me either
before or after the op. I was still menstruating up to the op,
although not monthly, regularly enough to be well over it so was happy
to get the op done. Small fibroids but no problems. No osteoporosis,
no HRT. Diagnosed with OPLL Nov 2009 age 62 after problems with loss
of feeling/tingling in hands and arms.
Not much help as far as I can see but every little bit of information
helps.
thinking of you all and sending positive thoughts
Jane
