I survived the Medial Branch Block. It was very painful and only gave
very limited relief. My PM doc doesn't think that I would get much
relief from a RF nerve Abalation. She is referring me for a NS
consult, a PT consult and I am to make an appt. with her to try to get
this pain more under control. I am currently going to the largest
teaching hospital in my state. I have had pretty good care from my
Rheumy and the PM Doc that I see there. They at least seem to be
interested in me. The students can be annoying but try to remember
what it was like when I was a student. The good thing about students
is they have a tendency to ask questions of the doc's so I make the
doc's think about your conditions more. I figure with my congenital
fusion, OPLL, DISH and DDD the teaching hospital would probably have
the most current info and can at least give me more info. How is
everyone doing? I have a question.
If you are still working, have you asked for accomendations such as
standing desk or keyboard for your laptop? They have given me some
flex time but I haven't asked for any equipment.

Hi Nancy -
I've not had to ask for many accommodations yet. The biggest thing
for me is I now need help doing field work (I'm a geologist) but my
boss is very helpful getting me the extra help.. My guess is that if
you ask for some reasonable accommodations, they will give them to
you. Not doing so would invite many legal issues and problems for
them that I'm sure they would want to avoid.

I hope your pain gets better soon. My pain levels fluctuate alot -
one day I'm ok, the next day not.

Cheers....

My Daughter is studying to be a Geologist. My dad was a rock hound and I inherited literally tons of rock.
What does your doc say about your pain? Will it probably continue? Sometimes it takes awhile for nerves and pain to settle down and get some relief. Was your surgery Posterior? I have heard it takes longer to heal.
Do you go to a PM clinic or are you addressing your pain? Pain can cause inflammation which research is showing all kinds of terrible conditions resulting from that. I used to be resistant to taking pain medication by PCP doc talked into it. On a happy note for me this is my last day to work until March 29th. Ahhh!!

Hi Nancy -

I just came across this whilst cleaning out my email inboxes (three
accounts gets a little messy at times). Where is your daughter
studying at? Keep me posted on her progress. I work for the USGS out
here in Seattle. If she is ever out in Seattle, tell her to look me
up and maybe I can drag her out in the field with me.

I hope your pain is better. I'm out almost 6 months post surgery and
still have lots o pain, especially if I get a little overzealous in
physical activity. Mostly just depends on what I do during the day -
some things bother my neck alot, some don't. I just need to learn
what works and what doesn't.

Cheers......

Brian
