Hello everyone. Just had a question about the back of my neck. Is it supposed to be sunk in? I had surgery on 9/13/12 c3 to t1, 11 screws and 2 rods. At t2 the disk feels like only skin covering, no muscle. I'm not scheduled to see surgeon again until June. Just wondered what others have experienced. Thanks Lisa

Hi Lisa,

I see that you're approaching your 6-month "birthday" from surgery.  Congratulations!  On Feb. 2, 2004, I had a laminectomy and fusion of my neck from C2-T1, and I have a beautiful vertical scar down my back.  Because my surgeon removed the "lamina", or arch, from each vertebra, there is an indentation where the lamina used to be.  At T2 and beyond, there is no indentation because the prominent arches of the vertebrae weren't removed.  I've lost about an inch in height since the surgery, which I understand is common.

These changes in my spine took some getting used to but I'm just glad I survived the long surgery, and I don't experience any more numbness or tingling in my extremities.  I am limited in turning my head however.

How about you, Lisa?  Has your surgery relieved your OPLL symptoms?

Regards,
Jan

Hi there
I hadn't really thought about it but yes, I too have a "dent" in my neck - and a slightly crooked vertical scar but since I can't see it I don't let it worry me at all!!    I am just happy that like Jan the operation removed the numbness in my fingers and tightness in my arms.    Apart from rather limited rotation of my head, life is all good so I do hope it has been successful for you Lisa :)

Warm wishes everyone from sunny New Zealand.
Jane
