I'm suffering from severe arachnophobia, so much that I am used to find ways to delete spiders in games or avoid them (I'm a fan of the bear mod in Skyrim lol). I really can't play or fight one of these, and before anyone tells me, Im aware that these are only a patch of polygons okay, but a phobia is everything but rational, that's just visual, your brain doesn't make a difference.
So! back to my point. I played Ark after reading that these atrocities lived only in caves. But last time I played with friends, guess what...Two of these bastards, one crawling in the forest near the camp, and one taking a sunbath on the beach. Fortunately I only saw that last one from a distance, but now I'm really ill at ease at the idea of playing again. I truly love that game, but the perspective of falling upon one of these things is really enough to get all my pleasure away., I mean really, I just keep wandering around the camp, and even though I'm yearning to explore the map ... that's impossible, the apprehension is just too great.
So here's my question: was it a bug or are Araneo definitely findable above grounds, contrary to what has been written on the wiki? If so, is there a way to disable them or maybe code something in order to disable them? We're mostly playing on a private server with my friends so they wouldn't be bothered by the retrieval.
If you are on the Center map there are a few Spider spawns outside of caves. I would suggest swapping to the Island map to be sure of missing them if possible. An unofficial server has the ability to use the NPCReplacements function in the .ini to swap them to scorps or some other NPC. IF you and your friends are only able to play on the Center Official servers you'll have to check some Spawn maps for it to be sure to avoid them.
@Deaner @Gelantious no no I'm certain it was a spider, and my friend beat the hell out of the first one and he confirmed it was a spider. I must admit that I remain quite new to the game however, so when you talk about center and island map, are these different maps that you chosse while you configure your server or are they different areas of the same map?
@BadDodo I totally understand, I myself am always anxious they add spiders to the games I'm currently testing in easy access for example...Yet I think you're luckier than me, giant butterflies are seen less often than spiders which remain amongst classic creatures...Or maybe I'm wrong?
@Theocrates finally: okay I have found this: -universe.com/dedicatedservers/customizationtools/dinospawnconfigurationtool/Default.aspx but there doesn't seem to be a setting for regulating Araneo spawns, it's only for dinos
Anyway, for those interested, here's how I have proceeded (I don't know if it worked haha I'm waiting for my friends to go patrol into the forest in my stead niark. The queen sending her subjects for her experiments XD)
8) In there I wrote DestroyActors Spider_BP_C , even though I'm not sure that worked: I think ClassName had to be replaced by the name of the class of objects to delete, here the spiders, and the Fstring well I thought you had to put an argument in there so I went for BP_C even though I have no idea of what this means xDD But sometimes in programming you just type things and that works... So if anyone can explain to me what this means I'd be curious!
I think you have to write the lines "NPC replacement"in your Game.ini, but once you are in the game, you should also make an admincheat DestroyAll SpiderS_Character_BP_C: this will have the effect of destroying every spider in the game, but the problem if you do that without the Replacement lines is that the spiders will spawn back. Writing ReplaceNPC by nothing will have the effect of preventing the spiders from spawning again.
This question, or rather a discussion, is not my only case.
The Fallen Order is a game included in the canon of Star Wars, so it could do without new creatures like spiders. The simple thing is that the presence of these arthropods in this game is a conscious movement of the creators, because in no other game or film there is even a mention of the presence of these creatures. And because of their presence for players with arachnophobia the game is practically impossible to play. Here's my question: can the community count on any other reaction from the creators on this issue than just emails that they will look into this problem and take it seriously, or maybe it's the modders who will have to help on a "fan to fan" basis?
Unlike previous Star Wars games, the game was not developed in the Frostbite engine, but in the Unreal Engine. This engine is much more accessible to the "average blacksmith", so modifications to this game are already being made, but mainly focus on improving graphics or adding more "skins" for the main character. And the community could manage on their own, but it would be nice if the developers would react to this problem somehow, even if this reaction would be a message where we would get information that EA and Respawn will not do anything about it.
I had to give up many games by the presence of spiders like Skyrim and the Witcher, and in my time even Minecraft. But there is one game in which the developers have perfectly coped with this problem - Satisfactory. There are several creatures in this game, including spiders, but the people from Coffee Stain Studios thought of players with arachnophobia. Well, in the settings there is an option "Arachnophobia mode". When enabled, this mode turns all spiders into 2D pictures of cat heads and disables spider sound effects. By the way, Satisfactory is also done in Unreal Engine.
Someone may say "but spiders are an important part of this game (SWJFO) and removing them means removing part of the game" Well, yes, but on the other hand, their presence is a factor that creates a problem for arachnophobic players. And the option itself, which would replace spiders with something else, would be possible rather than mandatory, so that not everyone would have to "suffer" from this change, and so that the game would finally become playable for the rest of the players. I'm not saddened by the fact that the creators added creatures that evoke phobias to this game, but I'm saddened by the fact that there is no official reaction from the creators. For me, the lack of this reaction is a lack of respect for the players who bought this product. It doesn't matter what kind of reaction it would be, whether it would mean that something will be done or not.
@Intrudand
I've played through the game 3 times from Jedi Knight to Jedi Grand Master and I'm seriously trying to recollect any places where you are forced to fight spiders.
Pretty much every place I recall encountering them you can literally evade them.
As far as Star Wars canon, the game follows it well enough, and Star Wars is a universe full of strange species of beasts and civilians.
It's kinda hard to sympathize when you are expecting them to omit something that is estimated to affect on average only about 4.8% of the global population, especially when they are so easily avoided.
@Sati_Sati
There are actually several errors in that guide where he leads one to believe certain spiders have to be fought, which is not true.
First off, the albino boss spider can be avoided entirely just by not walking into it's pit. You can still even access the secret just by taking a back route to the ledge it's on, accessed via the jungle wall behind the lone trooper standing by a crate above the spider/trooper fight.
Second, the spiders where you first get the breather in Kashyyyk can also be avoided just by cleverly choosing where you swim to, then luring them away while you run into the cave with the access route to the breather. Also remember you have Slow as well if needed.
Third, even with the elevated plateau he refers to after leaving the Origin tree, it's pretty easy to stand to the left of it to lure them, then dash to it's right side, mantle it, and quickly run to mantle the ledge to the right, which puts you out of their reach. The spiders there are easily duped into remaining looking for you, so it's not even hard to avoid them enough to even get collectibles in that area.
The only thing you really have to face in the way of spiders is the one in the arena, and only if you don't hide from it's sight and let it get killed by the Jotaz, and the little beetle-like ones on Dathomir, which can easily be Push killed into walls or off cliffs.
I think this is mostly a case of people letting their phobia take over, which keeps them from thinking they have any non combat alternatives. I mean I could make a video guide on how to do all this, but I've already uninstalled the game for valuable NVMe space for other games.
