Ah, deluxe editions. I do not, by any means, think they're inherently bad, but they can certainly enter murky territory with a quickness. Maybe even two quicknesses. Three might be pushing it, though. Sometimes, that means we end up getting lost in a snowblind forest of different versions, ala Assassin's Creed III, but others are a bit more cut-and-dry. Or at least, it seems that way on paper. And yet, even so, there's always reason to approach these things with caution. Case in point: SimCity's digital deluxe edition. It's got a small country's worth of bonuses themed after a few particularly large countries, but is it worth all the extra simoleons? Perhaps answers lie after the break.
"Get three European city sets at a great value with the SimCity Digital Deluxe, available exclusively at Origin. Recreate a European inspired neighborhood in the center of your city! Place world renowned landmarks including the Eiffel Tower, Brandenburg Gate or Big Ben to help your tourism business in your city. Receive challenging missions, complete unique achievements and earn big bucks as waves of Sims visit the landmarks. Watch as the businesses, homes and vehicles around your landmarks start to take on the flavor, style, and architecture of those countries. The Digital Deluxe Edition also includes the SimCity Heroes and Villains set."
The entire package will run you $80/65, and that's one of many reasons I'm of multiple minds about this. On one hand, none of this content sounds particularly essential (not, like, say, the ability to construct larger cities or anything along those lines), so I don't think mayors with shallow pockets and emaciated piggy banks should feel particularly slighted. But the separation of these perks from other editions feels arbitrary at best, and honestly, are they worth an extra $20? I mean, I don't think I'd even give them a second glance if they were sold separately as DLC for that kind of money.
So really, what practical purpose does this edition serve? The way I see it, no one really wins. The bonuses don't seem strong enough to build EA a meticulously planned and maintained path into our wallets, but some fans may still feel like they're being coerced into spending extra for the "complete" package. So it doesn't strike me as an entirely "evil" deluxe version, but I wouldn't exactly call it good either.
Old File not found. However, a file of the same name was found. No update done since file contents do not match. After is finishes then it says "Congratulations SimCity has been updated with EP1 update 1 build (638)"
Now, if you are going to use custom content and the day/night cycle, you probably want the patch to take you up to 1,1,640. It is on this page. Chose the second link. You don't need the BAT unless you are going to do your own 3D modelling.
I've got a similar problem. I've got an original Simcity 4: Deluxe from UK (but I'm from Poland and the game is in Polish, if it matters) in version 1.1.613, and i'm trying to upgrade it to 1.1.638 by the patch for Europe, downloaded from ea.com, but it doesn't work. The communique is "Invalid patch file". I can't upgrade it by any patch. Why?
But I don't have any cracks or mods. It IS an original version at all and I know it has to work, but it doesn't. That's my problem and i can't solve it... Maybe it's because of i've got Windows 7? Is it possible? Are there any other possible reasons?
I've been downloading patch many times, from many websites, and it was always the same. I've been trying to upgrade the game for a month by everything, and there wasn't any results. So I decided to ask you, because I haven't got any ideas what else can I do...
Once I downloaded the crack to try, and upgrade was almost successful - process came to the end, but the game still wasn't upgraded. So I have reinstalled Simcity on the C: ( before it was on D: ) and the old problem returned - "Invalid patch file"...
Also are you sure its SimCity 4 Deluxe you have and not the original SC4, the reason I ask is I bought from a website a few years ago what was being advertised as SC4 Deluxe, the picture showed a deluxe game, etc and what turned up was the original SC4 Game, which was really annoying especially as they wouldn't give me a refund.
It seems like it's something really strange... I won't make an another thread, just gonna lay off you for now ;]. I'm going to try on Windows xp on that and another computer. Then I'll write there the results if someone has a similar problem and that will be all. Thanks everyone for help . And sorry for my grammar, I'm still learning
Played it for a while and decided it was time to get and install some mods. I attempted to install the NAM mod and during the installer process it said: "Your SimCity 4 does not have the required update from EA/Maxis. The game must be patched to at least version 1.1.638.0 in order for custom content to work properly." It goes on to ask if I want to install the patch. I continue until it brings me to a webpage in which is the file to download the patch "UPDATE_SKU1_TO_P1_B638".
I get the same error message and issue as -kloveday. I went and noticed that the version that I am using right now is 1.1.610.0. I tried using the North American and EU version(SK2) to no avail. I know this is a rather old thread but if anyone could give me any advice, that would be great. Thank you.
joshuadrechsel, first off, welcome to Simtropolis! We've been getting a rash of reports like this, as unfortunately, for whatever reason, Origin is selling an unpatched and unpatchable version of the game. They basically took the original retail disc copy and replaced the SafeDisc copy protection with an Origin hook-in, which changed the checksum of the executable and prevented it from being patched. All the other digital retailers (Steam, GOG.com, etc.) are selling Version 1.1.641, which is pre-patched (all the way through the BAT nightlight patch) and ready to go. I just made a post on my blog, describing the situation, and tweeted it to the Origin Twitter account, imploring them to rectify this issue.
If you purchased it from Origin within their return period, you should be able to get a refund for it. I'd recommend doing that and purchasing it from another retailer. GOG.com has it on sale for US$7.99 right now, and they're selling 1.1.641.
