can default zoom be changed??

I'm working on a system with a 24" widescreen LCD monitor. Most all
websites look much, much better at 150% zoom. Is there a way to
change Opera defaults to use 150% zoom as the default??

Yes use the preferences.
Go into the preferences and on the 'Web pages' panel set your zoom to 150%.
