Like others who mourn the passing of 'proper' Opera but have a major
investment in emails, I have concluded that my best course of action
(other than retaining Opera 12.16 just for email) is to move to standalone
Opera Mail. I gather that there is no complete Import function that
operates at anything other than at message level. As I have a big
investment in 'Labels' (Filters), does O Mail have exactly the same
functionality overall as O 12.16? If I transfer the whole mail profile to
O Mail does everything still work? Are there any additional features
compared with O 12.16? I note an earlier post about backing up O Mail but
that didn't appear to receive any comments.

TIA

Yes !

Yes, it will. O.Mail 1.0 is O.12.16 with broken/hidden browsing
capabilyties & features

AFAIK, no.

Sadly, perhaps, I abandoned Opera (12.16 on Win/32 XP Pro SP3) as my
primary web browser. There are just too many sites it does not work well
with, and almost everything I read about later versions of the browser did
not give me a good opinion. So now I use Firefox. However, I had over 4500
emails and newsgroup posts stored in my Opera mail database, and I thought
it might be a ferocious task to try to convert them all to something like
Thunderbird. I downloaded and installed the Opera Mail (1.0) standalone
email client, and the installation process seamlessly and perfectly
converted my old mail store, with all the labels, mailing lists, etc.,
intact with no problems at all. Completely smooth. My only uncertainty is
whether I can safely delete the old Opera browser store to free up room on
my system. (I still use O 12.16 browser for a tiny few tasks.) Otherwise I
am completely satisfied, as the standalone email client works almost
exactly like the integrated browser/email/NG client with respect to email
and news.

(P.S. I am thinking about migrating to Linux, but the huge Opera email
store I have is my major hesitation.)

Thanks. There were many misgivings expressed about the Opera Mail Import
function. Unfortunately the source of these
http://my.opera.com/community/forums/topic.dml?id=1678592 has now been
taken off-line and I forgot to save it beforehand. Perhaps the import
function matured before final release, I don't know. Anyway, when/if I get
round to it, I will proceed with great care, fully backed up and prepared
to do it manually if needed!
