Cannot Send Any Email & News

I am happy with Opera internet browser, blows the roof off of Edge, Firefox etc.
Am happy with Opera Mail and News HOWEVER, I've not been able to send any outbound email and news despite studing the help section of opera.com, the forums and of course, the program itself.
...for awhile now, even when using Thunderbird & Windows Mail, sending email, williamke...@gmail.com wouldn't go out at all, just receive.
yet when trying to send via Opera Mail & News, not only can i not send gmail email but I cannot send my own @mahlers.com and @netbuds.net email at all.
Send email thats enqued, it just sits there and does nothing.
Press the send button, use the menu drop down list, receive/send, i recieve but do not send.

SO, what is the obvious fix for this?
Also, is there any extensions for Usenet / Newsgroup Yenc files? Yenc was supposed to be better than bmp, jpg but I've found it to be useless yet it continues to be a format in use worldwide...
