I migrated my XP Opera to Mac OSX over the last couple of days by
installing Opera 9.64 on the Powerbook Mac.I copied the mail directory
over, edited the .ini files appropriately and all seemed well. This
morning I copied over contacts.adr.
The program now opens okay but crashes spectacularly every time I try and
check email. All the Mac's windows are corrupted and display strange
colours and patterns...if it were a PC it would be a blue screen.
I haven't forwarded crash logs yet, but can anyone shed any light? It's a
big database...60,000 messages in Received. I slimmed down slightly this
morning to no avail.
Thinks in advance

I could think of the following options (make sure you have backups!):
1. Delete the mail account in MacOpera 9.64 and then rather import the WinOpera Mail account via File > Import and Export instead of replacing the directory/folder. Perhaps you didn't catch all path configurations etc. Your mails and account settings should be there again afterwards.
2. Alternatively try updating to the latest Opera 10 Alpha, then import Mails again:
-> http://my.opera.com/desktopteam
3. If nothing of the above works, report the crasher as a bug and attach the Mac OS X crashlog:

Thanks for the suggestions. I thought I would try upgrading to the latest
Opera 10 Alpha as you suggest. I've done that and can follow File > Import
and Export > Import Mail which leads to a window from which I can select a
generic mbox file. How, though, do I get such mbox file(s)? My MS XP 9.62
installation has no File > Import and Export option for exporting mail and
beneath C:\Documents and Settings\Ewan ....\Application
Data\Opera\Opera\mail\ there are hundreds of .mbs files in both
directories store and storage.
And... the new Mac opera is asking for an account to pull them into, but
I'd like that defined from the import.
Help!
I haven't a clue what I'm doing.... is this all documented somewhere?

You can export every view/filter in the Opera Mail panel into a single MBOX file by right clicking it.

Opera 10 can not only import MBOX files but also full Opera 7/8/9 accounts (see File > Import and Export > Import Mail). I'd like to suggest that you try importing the windows account directly since it was the last fully functional one.

http://www.opera.com/mail/start/ seems like the best suggestion.
