I'm running Opera 10 on my Acer Aspire One. The AA1 110L comes with a
preinstalled linux called "Linpus". Linpus is based on FC8.

But when I tried to get Opera 10.01 for my daugther's AA1, FC8 had gone
away. FC 10, 11 and 12 are the only supported Fedora versions. I tried
installing that version on my daugther's machine. It installed but
wouldn't run.

This means that the request to upgrade 10 to 10.01, is one I can't
comply with. Is it possible to remove the upgrade nag, when it's
impossible to comply?

I tried downloading 10.00, but FC8 had been removed from that version as
well.

Is it possible to get FC8 back for new Opera releases? And failing
that: is it possible to get access to the FC8 builds for older opera
versions?

Thanx!

Try
ftp://ftp.opera.com/pub/opera/linux/1001/final/en/i386/shared/opera-10.01.gcc3.shared.qt3.i386.rpm

The web page gives you gcc4 qt3 by default now, but there are many more on
the ftp server. If the above link doesn't get you a package that works you
can start browsing here: ftp://ftp.opera.com/pub/opera/linux/1001/final/en/

Thanx for the heads up. The RPM for the dynamically linked version
built with gcc3 and linked with qt3, installed without a hitch, and
worked fine.

Fwiw, I've been running 10.01 happily on at least four F11
machines for several days -- and F12 is due out in a week. Why not just
replace the OS?

I have precious (very precious!) little idea where up is.

Replacing the OS (with a Ubuntu or debian variant) was my original plan,
but the AA1s as delivered had such a high "appliance factor" (ie. you
just switch them on, and surf the web), that I've decided to stay with
it, especially on the kids machine.

But I've found that also for my own sake, it does the job... at least
most of the time.

What gives the appliance factor is not the OS or the OS version, it's
the packaging. The way things are configured out of the box.
