Not Able to Use Opera with New Yahoo! Mail

Win XP Pro SP3 / O 11.50 b1074

I have been using Opera with Yahoo! Mail Plus with complete satisfaction
for several years now. Yahoo! has come out with a new mail interface, and
I cannot get it to work with Opera. I was running O 11.10 and could not
get it to work, so just a short time ago I upgraded to 11.50, to see if
that would make any difference. It didn't. When I login to Opera "Identify
as Opera," Y!M says that my browser is not supported, and that I should
"upgrade" to Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Safari.

I went to IE (yuk) and converted to the new Yahoo! Mail. Then I logged out
and restarted Opera. Nothing would work until I "Mask as Internet
Explorer." I can get the primary Y!M screen, but none of the folders I
have set up or any of the messages in my Inbox will open. Basically things
hang, although I am able to logout. There is an option to revert to Yahoo!
Mail Classic, and that works, provided I go back to "Identify as Opera"
(but it has a somewhat different appearance from what I was seeing before
I went to O 10.50 and the version of Y!M that I had been using).

Has anyone had any success in getting Opera (any version) to work with the
(very) new Yahoo! Mail (Plus, in my case)? Thanks.

Over the past few months, the Yahoo manager in charge of the
changeover has sent out two emails that indicate which programs will
work with the new Yahoo Mail, and Opera is not one of them. In the
last year or so Yahoo has gone from being Opera tolerant to Opera
hostile. Not sure what we can do about it but protest and be blown
off. Here's the text from his 1 July email:

years. We are looking forward to bringing you an even faster, safer,
easier-to-use Yahoo! Mail very soon.

If you've already upgraded to the latest Yahoo! Mail, thank you.

version of Yahoo! Mail. But you don't have to wait. You can have the

Btw, I've gotten around having to deal with Yahoo Mail much via
browser by redirecting it to my email client, using Mailwasher
Pro as a filtering step. Only when there's spam do I visit to delete it
directly (been more of that the past few months). Ask if
you need the settings.
