On a search, I can find plenty of advice on how to set multi user from
1 to 0 if you're a single user, but I'm having the opposite problem. I
have three users:

C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\Opera\Opera\ (mine)
C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\Opera\OperaD\ (my
son's)
C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\Opera\OperaR\ (my
husband's)

The start menu links for these are variants of:

"C:\Program Files\Opera\opera.exe" /settings "C:\Documents and Settings
\Owner\Application Data\Opera\OperaR\operaprefs.ini"

No matter which operaprefs.ini I use, I'm getting the settings for
mine and can't figure out how to make it use the separate profiles
again. It also complains about the mail file already being in use.

Any advice on how to get back to everyone having their own
preferences?

Thanks!

I can't send using Opera's mail/news client since the upgrade...

You're actually using single user profiles. The thing is that I believe
/settings is broken in Opera 10. I don't have the setup to test that at
the moment, but it's a start.

In further searching, I see that a term used for this is "multiple
instances." I just wish I could get it to work again, since the other
two members of the household can't use their settings :-(.

Iirc it was broken and then fixed. In any case, it works for me in the 10.10 snapshots.
"C:\Program Files\Opera Snaps\opera.exe" /settings "D:\Documents and Settings\Gavin\Application Data\Opera\Opera Fresh Snaps\operaprefs.ini"

In Opera 10, relative paths were introduced to the settings file. Perhaps Opera is loading the correct operaprefs.ini, but this settings file points to the wrong folders... Check this in opera:about (Help -> About Opera)

If so, you'll need to do a Find & Replace on each custom operaprefs.ini file, replacing as necessary:

{LargePreferences} with C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Application Data\Opera\OperaR\
{SmallPreferences} with C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\Opera\OperaR\

While I couldn't find any files that had LargePreferences or
SmallPreferences in them, I was finally able to get it working by
adding:

Opera Directory=C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\Opera
\OperaR\
and
Mail Root Directory=C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings
\Application Data\Opera\OperaR\mail

...to the operaprefs.ini files.

Next up, figuring out why I can read and post to news.eternal-
september.org and cnews.corel.com, but can only read (not post) to
news.opera.com (the thread is "Can't send to Opera news groups" on
opera.mail+news).

Thanks!
