I hope I'm doing something wrong, and that I don't have to use IE in order to view files in TIFF format.

I love Opera -- help would be appreciated on this subject.

TIFF files aren't standard web format. You can only expect browser to
display JPEG, GIF and PNG images. If you wish to view TIFF files, you need
either a plugin or an external program.

I don't think Opera has a tif viewer since it is not a format that
is used on the web.
But there is no need to use IE. I'd suggest a good image viewer such
as the freeware irfanview <http://www.irfanview.com> .
As well as being able to view almost anything, you get great slideshow,
screen capture and basic image resizing and editing.
You can set Opera to open and tifs it encounters with irfanview.

I would first set my windows association. Most easily done in irfanview
itself - check "tif" in its default viewer preferences.

Then in Opera's file types preferences, find image/tiff and edit.
Choose "open with default application" which by this time should
have the path to irfanview in the accompanying field.
