Opera Unite - Can't create an account

I installed Opera 10.1 on WinXP and clicked on an item in the Unite panel.
A popup appeared asking me to create an account. I entered a username,
password, ticked the box agreeing to the T&Cs and added an email address,
but when I click 'next' nothing happens other than an icon flashes at the
bottom of the dialogue for a fraction of a second. I tried changing the
contents of the fields and still nothing happens. All fields contained
ASCII characters.
