Speaking of download managers, i swing between FreeDownloadManager.org and
ReGet (free Personal version at http://deluxe.reget.com/en/download.htm)
1st has more features and 2nd better comfortable UI.
What about bugs... i can't say. To me that is swinging too and so i'm
finding myself using the one mostl, which build has less bugs at the moment
So, bug between ReGet and Opera appeared:
ReGet installer has a checkbox, whether it wants to integrate into Opera.
I got used with their dumb intecept-all-i-can-catch plugin, so i always
uncheck it.
But then ReGet makes a culprit - it does not install files, but does
pollute Opera setup, namely standard_menu.ini, en.lng and worse of all -
opera6.ini

This makes Opera behave quite veird, for exampe i cannot run the exe or
zip from download window - Opera cries that there is no associated file.
EVEN when i edit the setting, which was set by ReGet to "open with
specific program", and revert it to "show dialog" - until i clean that
`specific program` path the radiobutton selection cause no difference to
Opera!
So i tried to juist delete those lines via GUI (i no of notepad, but if
Opera is not aimed at geeks only, then GUI shoud work as well, and it does
not require to shutdown Opera as well), and here GUI fails in strange and
numb way.
------ Opera GUI confuse ----
Why i cannot just delete those settings ? I select
"application/x-msdownload" and press [Delete] - and nothing happens. Even
no error prompt! And the ine is not deleted as it must be. Why ???
------ PS: Opera wish -----
Can it be made, that Opera installer would respect oGet and would not
delete its lines in Opera menu on upgrade ?

No, oGet (not any other program) should not edit the standard menu file,
but place a custom menu in your Profile directory.
I don't have enough experience with download managers to offer more useful
advice, I'm afraid. There's a slew of file types that Opera will always
have an entry for under 'Downloads'. I'm not quite sure why BTW. It's a UI
bug that the 'delete' button isn't grayed out for them. An ugly but
effective way to restore the defaults is to (while Opera is closed) remove
the entire [File types] section from opera6.ini.

I wonder, can in custom menu be placed incremental instruction, "find this
menu, and under this item add my custom bla-bla-bla" rather than
copypasting menu from standard oen and then modifying it in place.
Otherwise that option would be not suited well toward Opera upgrades.
Or there must be standar ways to insert hooks, so that after upgrade Opera
would say to oGet-like programs "i updated, go and make your changes again"

I know.

Hope, QA will check it on next release.
Also Hope there would be buton "Revert to default", if i cannot delete, i
would at least like to wipe all changes of the selected MIME entries.
and plz, let QA also check that strange unexpected effect, when file
launch from download window or from default opera dialog will suddenly
respect "c:\Program Files\Common Files\ReGet Shared\OperaCatcher.exe".
Since radiobutton is not set to "use specific application" and the very
filename of specific application is greyed out - this must not be.
That should be just OS-default launch then.
