I'm running Opera 10.53 under XP SP3, on a broadband connection at about
5000 kb/s, so not really a slow speed, at least for New Zealand.
My problem is that Opera Turbo keeps turning itself on, thereby
seriously slowing my downloads. I press F12 and untick Turbo, and damn
me if it doesn't turn itself on again at some random time.

I have searched for a permanent switch for this but haven't found one
yet. Does anybody know how to give Turbo mode a permanent Coup de grâce?

TIA,

Click the Opera Turbo icon on the toolbar and set it to off rather than
auto.

If you've got rid of the default icon, go into the main prefereces and
switch it off from the 'Web pages' tab.
