I really like Opera 4, but I'm having a problem with online banking. I have accounts at two differnet banks, and while online banking works fine with one institution, any attempt to view pages from the 2nd site leads to nothing but a blank screen.

I know that this is not much to go on, but does anyone have any idea what one site may have that the other doesn't? It won't help because you can't actually get into their secured sites without an account, but the main page for one bank is http://www.mbanx.com, and the other is http://www.preschoicefinancial.com

Thanks!

If it helps to know: I have had no problems with mbanx with any of the O4
browsers - including the "final" version. I did have some problems with
the 3.6 versions, so this is an improvement as far as I am concerned.

I've had no problems with mbanx either (well, in terms of browsing
their secure site for online banking -- if you're talking about
banking with them, that's another story and the reason why I've moved
to President's Choice Financial, but I digress...) but the problem is
with President's Choice Financial, which is actually run by CIBC.

I don't understand why Opera 4 displays a blank page once the URL
opens. I'm able to get into the site, but once I logon, the page is
blank.

Accessing on of their URIs in the secure area, I got the following
message:

We've designed this site to work with versions of Netscape Navigator,
Netscape Communicator and Microsoft Internet Explorer that support
128-bit encryption.

Please contact your Internet service provider if you are not sure it
supports the use of these versions of Netscape Navigator and Microsoft
Internet Explorer, or if you need assistance with downloading a
browser.

Once you've successfully downloaded and setup your new, secure Web
browser
you can connect directly to us or over the Internet from the home
page.

PAS in evidence. I'll follow up directly with the bank.

What PAS, Sue?

I've configured Opera 4.0 to Identify as Mozilla 4.72, and so I don't
get that message. As stated, mbanx works fine...

Thanks for your follow-up!

PAS (PageAuthorStupid) is a phrase coined by one of the Elektrans who
alpha/beta-tested early internal builds of Opera. It generally refers
to scripts within documents which check for *1* of exactly *2*
browsers, and deny entrance unless the visitor has one or t'other.

Ah, yes - you've fooled the silly author (you rascal, you!). There are
more problems than just PAS with President's Choice Financial, so I'll
pursue that one to see whether we can work together to solve them.
After all, if our users can't access their banks, that makes it harder
for them to see whether their payment to Opera has actually cleared
... ;-)

Well, President's Choice responded to my complaint. Here's what they said:

"Unfortunately, as you are aware, it is not possible to access
President's Choice Financial's Internet Banking service with the Opera
3.21 browsers. At this time, we do not have the resources to be
tracking security issues for the Opera browsers. President's Choice
Financial strives to be at the forefront of the electronic revolution
in retail banking so that we can provide our clients with the best in
service options. With the launch of Internet Banking via
www.preschoicefinancial.com, a business decision was made to support
the two main browsers of choice, Microsoft Internet Explorer and
Netscape. These browsers alone make up 95% of all the browsers used to
access the Internet. Furthermore, we are very conscious of the
importance of maintaining secure and safe online services. Netscape and
Microsoft share this focus and are equipped to immediately address the
slightest questions of security. Both companies have processes in place
to control, fix and notify their browser users of bugs or security
weaknesses.
I do hope that this information, while not exactly what you'd hoped, is
of some use to you. Please know that President's Choice Financial
shares your interest in the latest technological developments and will
always endeavour to provide our clients with access to them. "
