I opened a new tab, and discovered that all of my speed dial buttons were
gone. I have no idea if I did anything that would've made them go, but
they're gone. (I didn't intentionally delete any of them, that's for sure.)
Seems to be somewhat similar to the problem mentioned in Message-ID:
<33818121-22f7-497c...@glegroupsg2000goo.googlegroups.com>
Luckily, I have my old speeddial.ini backed up, but I really, really don't
want to have to copy it over every time I start Opera.
Ideas? Suggestions? I don't have enough info to file a bug report; "speed
dial buttons disappeared" is pretty vague, I think.

Who has the answers?
What are the questions?
Good place to check on something like this is Opera beta forum, where
you'll discover you're not alone (also mentioned by some in the
developers' blog comments, where you got 11.50). I wouldn't get too bent
about copying speeddial.ini over. Some of us used to copy that and
several other files over for years, before the updater became reliable.
Still do with each clean install and when the updater misses.

I generally prefer to avoid web forums, mostly because I just don't like
them. (Stupid personal preferences...) Sigh. I suppose I'll take a look.

It's weird, because Next wipes the .ini clean at every start. Very annoying,
almost enough so to remove Next and just install whatever the current release
version is. (But I'll be reinstalling Windows very soon, so I'll probably
just wait until then.)
Of course, there are other changes that make me want to throttle Opera's
developers (for example, up to now, ctrl+click on an image, with or without a
link, has been "save image", now it's "open link in background tab"). I might
very well have found my limits to what I'm willing to deal with and still
stay with Opera. (The problem with that is, I don't really like anything
else. What to do, what to do...)

Using a forum for reference doesn't require hanging around. I'd make a
partial exception for the developers' blog, where skimming through one
picks up on problems others are having, and sometimes fixes.

Not confirmed here on any Next build with xp/sp3. How are you doing
the update?

I don't know about that particular keystroke, but the latest build has
drawn some comments about changes on the developers' blog.

Ok.

The app, or speed dial?
The app, I downloaded it from get.opera.com using wget, then installed
normally. (This is my first-ever install of Next; normally I stick with
released versions, and will be doing so in the future -- beta-testing isn't
for me.)
Speed dial... First, I ran Opera, then closed it. After it unloaded, I went
to "Application Data\Opera\Opera Next" and copied over the speeddial.ini from
my previous install. (Opera had never been installed on this machine before;
it was copied from another machine.)
After it was blanked for the first time, I repeated the above, thinking it
was a 1-time thing.
After it was blanked for the second time, I rebuilt it within Next one button
at a time.
After it was blanked for the third time, I gave up.
(I have Opera Link enabled, and before this install of Next, it worked just
fine with speed dial.)

Ok. I use the compatibility mode for keyboard shortcuts, but there's no such
thing for the mouse, sadly (and I can't edit the mouse shortcuts, much to my
annoyance).

Anyway, nice to see that I made enough of an impact to be so feared
that I am considered one of the two prime evils.

Was Opera should closed when you copied SD.ini over? Also, check your
SD settings in opera:config > user prefs. There are three, including
the file location, and SD State should be = 1. I don't think you have
to create a SD file within Opera first, but that might be something to
try before the copy. Btw, first thing to do when the SD does appear is
to set (right click) each thumbnail to reload at some set interval.
They don't, but that works around a bug that appeared earlier on with
SD2.
Next update, you might consider just using Run instead of Save, closing
Opera when the update box opens, and using the Options install to make
sure you're getting only what (and where) you want.
Gene
A new build (1052) appears to speak to some of this.

It was totally unloaded; I watched in Process Explorer to make sure. (Typical
thing with me, really.)

I'll consider it, but I really prefer having a local copy of the installer,
which means saving. (Besides, I do it using wget, not Opera's downloader.)
Anyway, I removed Next and installed 11.11; problem solved. :-)

And Ctrl+Shift+T opens last closed tab.
Seems to be falling in line behind Chrome.
Except that O's "Secure site" icon is yellow and info is in blue :)
